  2. Okay while were on the subject how do I delete users? And can someone explain how to make a shell account I typed adduser -s user1 and it says invalid shell, what shell do I use? Where do I specify the shell and user name? -Neocytrix

Hello everyone, I am going to sound like a complete idiot here lol but when im in the terminal it wont let me switch to a directory called New Folder, I had a similar problem in dos switching directories but I don't know what to abbreviate things too or if thats even what I have to do. -Neocytrix
  5. I like 10.0 community better lol. It has more drivers and things like that, plus it runs a little better for me.
  6. Hello, I was wondering, if I want to write a perl program which asks the user to put in a password, is there any way to prevent the user from getting the password from the source? Perhaps encryption or somthing along those lines. -Neocytrix

Hello all, I have just installed Mandrake 10.0 Community and I don't like the program "Kopete" it comes with and I want to know if GAIM is compadible, because at GAIM's website it doesn't offer a 10.0 download, just 9.2 and 9.1, but the source is there, I am a total noobie and have no idea what to do or even if its possible, can someone help me?
  9. 1. I have a Linksys -g router 2. I believe that has a firewall in it, but I never have any problems in windows with it. 3. I have DSL (PPPOE). 4. I have no idea if settings are correct, thats what im aiming to find out. And I am just getting started with this so im a new user.
  10. I have finally got my internet up and running with mandrake but I have a couple problems I don't know how to go about solving. 1. I can connect to http://www.msn.com and yahoo.com, but not google or some other sites. 2. I can't connect with GAIM. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this get back to me. -Neocytrix
  11. Hello everyone, I have recently installed my Linux kernel and I think my drivers for my 3com ethernet port. But now I need help configuring it and even making sure its there (im very new to linux). To install my drivers I did the following, (put the driver on my hard drive>go to konsole and type "tar zxvf 3c2000.tar.gz">switch directories to where it extracted to> and type "make load") Can someone tell me how to make sure the drivers are where there supposed to be and how to configure them? -Neocytrix
  12. Okay I think the problem was I wasn't on root in the konsole, so I did that and everything apeared to work fine (there were no errors) but now how do I configure the driver and make it so I can get online? -Neocytrix

  15. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH GLITZ, the kernel is finally installed where it has to be :D. Now I printed out a readme that came with my drivers for my NIC card so I followed the instructions (copy the file to my hard drive>go to konsole and change directory to the directory where the driver is>type "tar zxvf 3c2000.tag.gz"> type "cd 3c200">type "make load" ) then it does a bunch of stuff im guessing its loading it in, however it then comes up with an error saying "make:***[load] Error 127.
  16. I don't get what to do with BVC's code, I tried just typing it in in the konsol but it said something like Gentoo is not a bash command or somthing like that. -Neocytrix
  17. I am a complete Newbie can you guys please try to put things into "idiot terms" and explain so I actually learn somthing. I am basicly trying to install my ethernet card drivers and I was told that I would have to "patch the kernel" or somthing on those lines. Can someone tell me what they would do if they were just starting off and had a fresh install of linux? -Neocytrix
  18. I am getting really confused with this kernal thing. I go to the package installer thing in the Mandrake Control Center and I search for 2.4.22 (because thats the kernal version as far as I know) so then it returns a bunch of packages, ive installed two but everyone I install can no longer be found in the package installer search and I searched the root directory for both "2.4.22" and "Kernal" and it cant find either of the ones I installed. Any ideas?
  19. Hello everyone, I have some drivers I would like to install, however I need the kernal source and its not where they say its supposed to be (/usr/src/linux or /usr/src/linux-2.4) now I have mandrake 9.2 and I need someone to tell me what to do to get the kernal. thanks -Neocytrix
  20. Hello everyone! I have a partition on my drive, one for Mandrake 9.1 and the other For Windows. Now for Windows related problems I had to re-install Windows and that got rid of my lilo bootloader and it now boots right into Windows. I misplaced that disk that you need to put in and choose to boot into linux from that, is there anywhere where I can download that disk? -Neocytrix

  22. Hello, I am using KDE and I have opened the Mandrake control center before but now it just attempts to loads and closes without prompting me on it, it even does this while im logged on as root. Any help would be usefull. -Neocytrix
  23. I was just going through things trying to learn them, I really don't need to look at the Kernal but what I want to know is can it damage something? Because it says that there could possibly be a bug in it.
