Are you using the mandriva nvidia drivers? I am using the nvidia driver i downloaded from the nvidia site.

Thanks lex. I was worried there might be other issues that need to be addressed aswell. But after re-reading everyones posts it looks like I can just go ahead and it should be all perfect.

I also added kerne-devel-latest, but I still have to compile the NVIDIA driver everytime i update the kernel. Hence I only do it when i have time to repair the install should something go awry.

Im running the kde4.1, apart from the occaisional plasma crash its pretty stable. I am interested in updating though. Can someone guide me through this?

Hi there, my current kernel is : 2.6.27.14-desktop-1mnb This is what i did, please wait for someone to confirm thou as I sometimes do things the difficult way. In add and remove software I added kernel-latest, which apparently will update when new MANDRIVA kernels are available. You can use the latest linux kernel, and I have done it in the past, but I am told to stick with the mandriva ones, which are optimised for the purpose intended. So far I have seen it update the kernel twice I think.

Hi all, I see in the advisories, MDVSA2009:070, that there is an update for open office. Is it simply a matter of waiting for this to show up in the mirrors? or do I have to manually force this?

I found that if I open my movies using mplayer rather than the default dragon player then the result is fine. I'll have to find how to make mplayer my default.

Hi guys, I have a kodak camera which I'm generally happy with. Unfortunately when I try to watch movies I've made the colours are all incorrect. The picture is there, just the colours are terrible. Humans are Purple! I expect that this is a codec issue? From what I can gather I only have the 2009 Mandriva installed ones, as I haven't added any. Does this sound correct?

Does this mean that mandy 64 bit is ready to be used as a complete home desktop PC?

Sorry I dont quite understand what you mean. Do you mean leave one swap entry in fstab and do something with that partition?

Hi guys, just cleaning up my system now that its all working. I have two swap partitions. Here is part of my /etc/fstab file sdc5 is 7.8Gb sdc9 is 3.8Gb. I would imagine that I can do without sdc9. Is it a matter of erasing the partition and removing that entry from the fstab file? or are they are items I need to attend to?

Found a solution online. Not sure of the cause. Alot point to updates, I did that update yesterday, so possibly. I renamed the .kde folder in my user directory to .kde-old and rebooted and all is good! Something got scrambled somewhere, but is fine now.

Tonight I came home checked my emails, shutdown. Came back now when I boot, I can login graphically, but then plasma crashes and I have to reboot. I can login with root (no 3d effects). How do I repair this?

Yeah laughs all round. What a dumb NEWB trick to fall for. Problem is I think I've messed the first mandriva splash screen resolution. Can this be changed?

ARRGH! I done a system update. No graphical login, to be expected. Installed the NVIDIA driver, all ok. Start x, all ok. So next time I reboot I get dropped at the CLI, in run level 3 I think it is. What do I have to change to get a graphical login? Please help. EDIT: Ooops, I was booting into fail safe not the running version...Sorry!

I installed the current driver and it does seem much snappier. Thanks. I read through those manual config guides over the next few days.

I used Nvidia server settings to get the driver version of: 177.8, which is definately not the current version. It is not an agp card. Im not sure if its just the display that is slow, the system itself doesn't seem as fast as it could have been.

Hi guys, as some of you are aware, I've finally got my PC running in a state that I've always wanted. Now that the main items are checked off it's time to start playing. :D I have a EN9400GT Nvidia graphics card (I'm not up with it when it comes to graphics cards, I know this isn't a real fantastic card, but it has 512mb, where my old one had only 128mb). I downloaded, ages ago, a Nvidia driver from the Nvidia website and am using that. I've now got compiz running and it's not as smooth as my old PC. Maybe I need the latest driver? How can I find out what version of the driver I'm running, and are there any ways to improve the performance of my card? I remember when I first got into Linux a common tip was to raise the priority of the desktop. Is this done automatically with a Mandriva install? Any help on this is most appreciated. Thanks

This is what I did, worked perfect, went through a Japanese mirror (I'm in Australia). Some 500mB of downloads, and I'm upto date. So I think it was purely a bad mirror or server. Seems all fine now. Thanks all.

I created a folder in the desktop section. When I double click it, it opens with dolphin. Thats ok, but I'd prefer what ever was used in KDE3. Was it konqueror? Can I change this some how?

Hi all, since my install is now how I would like it I have been trying to update. I can add and easily update the PLF medias. I had trouble downloading the Official medias last night. I thought it might be my internet connection, so I left it. Tonight, still troubles downloading updates. So I removed the medias, readded the PLF medias with out trouble. I cannot add the official medias. Is anyone else having trouble???? The message I get is: Failure when adding medium There was a problem adding medium: Could not find a mirror from mirror list http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.$arch.lst
