Hi all, How can we connect to the Net and get our mail with MDK9.1 installed in text mode ? should we rather install a drinou Linux distro ? my PC : 233Mhz, 32 Mo RAM & 1Go HD thanks for your answers

Why don't you start with a distro that is stable ? I am using MDK 9.1 with only slight problems that I am solving step by step nothing to put my PC down a happy go lucky newbie

the type of memory in the PC concerned is no more available of course and this old PC has no DVD reader if I can copy the necessary part of this DVD on my HD and then burn a CD with it ... but of course I cannot propose such a solution to a new comer to Linux so no known equivalent of WIN98SE in the multitude of Linux distributions ? the newbie must buy a new PC ! thanks

Somebody proposed to send me an old copy of MDK 8.2 and I would be glad to try it Of course the problem with an old computer is memory and speed to handle the new distros but millions of human being especially in developping countries have the need of a light distro thanks

I have tried to install the MDK 9.1 in command line and stopped during the installation of the mail system and browser system

I have been to the addresses you mentioned before but I am unable to select the stable distro supposed to operate on the same type of PC that runs WIN98SE

from your answers, I consider that, to-day there is no Linux match to the well known win98SE there probably was a lot of bugs at the time but my WIN98 install CD was not pressed last year, was it ? and Linux have had some time to build a match to Win98SE hasn't it ? We have to consider how thins are and not wish they were this or that thank you for your attention

I am looking for a safe Linux distribution to propose to the owners of a PC with Windows 98SE I think that a link on this Mandrake site to such a distribution could improve the image of Linux in the world How a newbie can locate and test all the actual Linux versions ? Does this mean that Linux never had a distribution to be compared to WIN98SE This is a serious question apparently without any clear answer Thank you for your attention

Hi all, I started Linux with the MDK9.1 last year I changed my sources to the Internet URPMI sources lately But : this distro is not yet free of bugs : 1 the numlock is not loaded at boot 2 Konqueror 3.1.0 has not been upgraded automatically from the sources and has the following problems : a) it disconnect at times accidentaly while surfing on the net B) It cannot be steady registering a web page with pictures by the menu "tools/archiv the web page" it registers it like *.war (this is the normal way) but sometimes like a ZIP file and we have to change its name into *.tat.gz to be able to open it or like a Kword document with the same problem so my question is : Is there any Linux distribution as good is now Windows 98SE which works OK (provided you don't connect it to the net ) ? ? ? Linux seems to go from one version to the other without completing any this is no good publicity for them ! [moved from Software by spinynorman]

Obviously I idn't use easyurpmi in a proper way ! I just got lost ... anyway with a clear example I of what i am looking for I will get it done I like to know how to install the latest version possible of the Abiword word processor on my MDK9.1 downloading the package and clicking on it for installation was not the right solution

what are we using easy urpmi for ? it's unclear to me is it to update the PC internal data base ? should I remove the 3 install CD from the source to replace them with a HTTP site ? there should be an axplanation for the newbie somewhere ! How can we update Abiword without getting into trouble ? for me it was the start of messing about thanks to give me a step by step in french or english please what do I do with the following page : Index of /pub/urpmi.setup

in the Mandrake Control center should I use Mandrake update (left icon) or software Manager (where are the softs installed from, the right icon i got the french version ) ? thanks

the help file was not there there was no help folder in the Abiword folder

I downloaded the RPM direct from an indication on a forum because I don't know how to install it from URPMI should I install a new source in the software manager ? and which one ? or should I use the Update side of URPMI but again on which site to connect ? Thanks for your help I am still a newbie as far as installation is concerned with RPM or tar.gz I am not up to the master mark

I installed Abiword 2.0.0 from the RPM but i find out the version 2.0.6 is available and I downloaded it should I install it ? will I get the doc from the help menu ?

Hi all, How can I make a clicable URL in Kword or Abiword or Kspread ? I wish to insert my bookmarks in Kspread for example to put them in good order and be able to ask for an URL by a clic on it's address is it possible ? Thanks
