Hmmm,
Time to upgrade I think. I'm still running 8.0 PowerPack. Now, do I get the standard or another powerpack? Oh, the agony of deciding.
dalee
I applaud you supporting the boxed sets. until i went back to school and found myself flat broke every week (GRRRR>>>>>) I did the same.
a switch from 8.0 to 9.0...not contest. get the power pack.

I hope you guys can find a fix for this. My father is a veterinarian, and he has about 30 clients in his office. I'm sure this would help him out a ton!!

yeah, i dunno where to take this. Since all of my apps are working better than usual, I'm gonna leave it be and come back to it in a few days with a clear head.

WHOA. you're on your own there man!!!! :wink:

Well, Linux isn't always best for everything. For example I set up my own Custom DVES (Digital video Entertainment System) he he I just made that up. While I would have prefered a Linux solution, it wasn't possible because the hardware doesn't support Linux.
It runs on Win2k and does it all!
Records TV shows with a real time Mpeg-2 hardware encoder anywhere from VCD to DVD quality with a Hauppage WinTV PVR250 card. TV recording can be scheduled to automatically record what ever I like.
Output to my TV is via a REALmagic Xcard, Mpeg-2/DivX decoder card and the picture quality is nothing short of Awesome, even VCD quality mpegs look awesome with the hardware decoding.
I also have DVD ripping and encoding software so I can rip and re-encode my DVD's to SVCD quality Mpegs and store them on the hard drive giving me instant access at all my movies any time I like
OMG that sounds F*cking bad ass!!!!!

well, it seems as though glxinfo nor this 3ddesktop app know where to find libglu. is there a way to update the path that all thse apps are looking in? glxgears works fine and quake does as well, so i know everything is installed right.
i know for certain
[root@omniscience stuff]# locate libGLU.so.1 /usr/X11R6/lib/libGLU.so.1 /usr/X11R6/lib/libGLU.so.1.3.401
-
My ignorance amazes me sometimes. I have never had DRI installed. Well, it is now. now i can play quake at 1024x768 too! Holy Sh*t
only thing is though...glx info gives me an error message now:
[ezroller@omniscience ezroller]$ glxinfo glxinfo: error while loading shared libraries: libGLU.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [ezroller@omniscience ezroller]$
do i need to relink something...or something?
-
Ah glorious success. well, i installed the rpm for the "other" distro and it works!
albeit is slow as all hell...and i mean like S...L....O.....W.
If I can get it working at a normal speed, I think I'm gonna write a how-to for this.

okay, so I found this really cool lookin replacement for the pager in any WM. Its called 3ddesktop
http://desk3d.sourceforge.net/images/car1.jpg
I installed from rpm, and it pisses and moans about not finding
libstdc++.so.2.10
well, I looked on rpmfind.net and could only find a package for PLD distro.
running locate will yield
[ezroller@omniscience ezroller]$ locate libstdc++.so.2.10 [ezroller@omniscience ezroller]$
NOTHING. however
[ezroller@omniscience ezroller]$ locate libstdc++.so /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-mandrake-linux-gnu/3.0.4/libstdc++.so /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-mandrake-linux-gnu/2.96/libstdc++.so /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.3 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.3.0.4 [ezroller@omniscience ezroller]$
I am assuming my version is newer, and I have the latest version of 3ddesktop.
There are no config files for me to edit in 3ddesktop either to point it to this.
anyone know where I should take this?

Oh, I completely understand, I finally goaded my roommate into installing Linux, now he sits there looking at all sorts of errors all wide-eyed. I think he'll stick with it just cause if he starts something, he wants to be the best at it, but its definately not for everyone.

good call man! Just goes to prove there's more than one way to skin the proverbial cat!

Without knowing what brand modem you have, thats hard to answer. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but you may want to check the Hardware Compatability List at :
