Hey !! it did something different! do I ./configure next?

It is in the file /home/kilimanjaro/updates/open-office/ is where it is at. And before I tried to complie it, I typed cd updates cd open-office and I was logged in as root

I get an error tar (child): OOo_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz: cannot open: no such file or directory This is what always happens. Somebody will be helping me and I will get nothing but errors. I am wondering if something is wrong with mandrake. I am afraid to try reinstalling it. I had someone help me the first time, but i have moved since then. Could I update to 9.2? would that fix any problems?

How do you install files that are not rpms? I have about 6 files that I can not install, and everytime I try to get help I get some arcane instructions that make no real sense to me. I am getting very frustrated. Someone will help me for awhile, but then are gone and I am stuck with a program that won't install. I have tried following the install insructions, but something always, I mean always, goes wrong. I have been tring to install different programs for the past two weeks. I have not been able to install anything but rpms. I just don't know what to do. I am almost ready to re-install windoze.

I tried to download midonkey from plf for some reason my computer will not connect to ftp sites. I couoldn't find midonkey on texstar.

I'm not sure what you mean by client. If I am going to switch download managers, should I unistall gnutella?

Can anyone help me with gnuttela ? It won't connect to the net to do searches, but it will connect for downloads, but I can't search so I have nothing to download. I know about the button on the bottom left that will disconnect the connection with other users, but still allows downloads and it doesn't matter whether it is clicked on or off. It is like the button is stuck.

I am using manfrake 9.1 with fluxbox and the kppp is under network and then remote access. There are some really interesting things that can happen when you are trying to set up kppp. If you are having problems let me know I went through most of them. Most of the problems seem to resovle around not being able to get 8 bit clean ( what ever that means) and you have to customize the dialing arguments.

if you change the size of an image and then change the resolution you can change the overall size of the file. both of these things can be done in the image menu.

Open a picture with gimp and right click on the image. you should get a menu go down to image and then you will get another menu. Then click on scale image. You can change the px tab pn the right to a % and then choose what percent. There might be alittle more you have to do with it. I can't remember all of it, it has been awhile since I used it. You can also change the file type to ones that compress better. You do this be clicking on file and then save as. Then under save options you can change the format of the file.

How many post must I make to no longer be a noobie? (just curious)

It still isn't working right. I went to the http site and downloaded the rpm for gnuttella and the bug fix rpm, but it still isn't working correctly. I think I have figured out what it is not doing. It is not allowing acces to other computers. There is an icon in the lower left which lets you disconnect form the net for search purposes, but downloads will continue. Is there some way to reset the program?

When I try ftp://mandrake-forum.org/pub/PLF/cooker/i...1-1plf.i586.rpm I get a black screen with no writing or images. If I hit refresh, I get another black screen with no writeing or images. I am I cursed that nothing seems to work correctly? I fell pretty discouraged with the whole thing..

I must be doing something wrong. This started because the version of gnutella I am using will not connect to the net. So I downloaded the newest version. It came as a tar.bz2 file. I extracted the file , but there is no rpm file that I can find. I have tried following the instructions that came with the file and that doesn't work. I have strtugling with this for about 5 days now. When I extracted the file it created its own file, but I have it in a file titled gnutella the compleat path way is /home/kilimanjaro/updates/gnutella/gtk-gnutella-0.92.1 But, there are 6 files inside of that one and I have no clue as to how to install this program. The six files are 1. debian 2. doc 3. pixmaps 4. po 5. src 6. U What is the next move?

OK now it tells me error: read failed: is a directory (21)

I typed in rpm -qa | grep gnutella and it replied gtk-gnutella-0.92.0-0 I typed rpm -Uvh gtk-gutella-0.92.1 and it did nothing as a regular user and as root it replied error of gtk-gnutella-0.92.1 failed: no such file or directory I downloaded 0.92.1 last night and extraced it. It is in a file at /home/kilimanjaro/updates/gnutella.

I am trying to update gnutella. rpmdrake cannot find my older or newer version. do I need to remove the older version before I install the new one? Why won't rpmdrake work? I tried reinstalling rpmdrake and most of the mandrake update packages, and nothing has changed. Am I doing something wrong? I have tried getting updates and it tells me that all updates are installed. It has been saying this for about a month now. I would think that there would be some updates in that time.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but I want to learn. What does that mean? abd what are ip tables?

I am trying to install audacity, but when I go to configure it tells me Configure: error: "could not find wx-config: is wxWindows installed? is wx-config in your path?" I have no idea what this means or what to do. Could someone please help?

I'm not sure what I am supposed to be doing. I got to the part where I type cd a and hit tab, it gave a couple of different options. I went with audacity-src-1.0.0-2.tgz and it replied not a directory. I have to leave in about 10 minutes will you be here later?

kuchwas I don't have all of the dependent files for the rpm, I don't really know where to go to get them.

I managed to extract it with ARK, and it is now in a folder, but I don't know what to do from here.
