  1. Good Morning.

I have upgraded to Mandriva 2010 yesterday. After the update, when I boot Mandriva, the GUI login screen doesn't comeup.

When I switch to command prompt and issue startx command, I get the following error-

xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.16241

/etc/X11/X: symbol lookup error: /etc/X11/X: undefined symbol: pixman_disable_out_of_bounds_workaround

    giving up.

xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server

xinit: No such process (errorno 3): Server error.

Request you to kindly help me with this. Thank you!!

  2. Hi,

I have read in one of the forums

that they got rid of this error by change from Mode=Auto to Mode=Managed

I did the same thing in configure network option.

It now doesn't say invalid argument now. It just displays this error message-

Another wpa_supplicant instance is already running for device wlan0

  4. You could try:

    ifup wlan0

first and then retry the scan command and see if it's any better. Otherwise, I'd say there's some sort of problem with the ndiswrapper stuff - maybe wrong driver.

When I try ipup wlan0, it gives this message-

Error for wireless request "set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on devise wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
Another wpa_supplicant instance is already running for device wlan0

    Please help!

  5. Try doing this in a console window, and see if you get any results:

su (enter root password when prompted)
    iwlist wlan0 scan

if you see any results, you are seeing access points but is strange if you see them here and not in the gui tools.

    Hi Ian,

Thank you for the reply. I am not able to see any wireless networks in iwlist as well. It says network is down. Here is the output.

    [root@localhost rama]# iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down

    [root@localhost rama]#

Did I miss anything in the installation?

  6. Hello,

I have installed mandriva 2009 yesterday. Everything works great - but the wireless networks.

Windows XP detects two wireless networks as shown in the screenshot attached. But, Mandriva detects none. I don't think there is any problem with the installation or drivers but.. not very sure. Here are some of the outputs you might be interested to look at.

  7. Hi,

My internet connection is very slow in my Mandriva compared to the connection speed in Windows XP. Just did a google search for this problem. One of the forums said

"Check your DNS servers in your /etc/resolv.conf file. If it shows your router as the nameserver this might be the issue. Change this entry to your ISP's DNS servers."

    My /etc/resolv.conf file says-

    search Belkin

    nameserver 192.168.2.1
    nameserver 65.24.7.3
    nameserver 65.24.7.6

I am pretty sure Belkin is the name of my router. What exactly should I change this to? What is " entry in my ISPs DNS server"?

Thanks so much for all ur help!!

You may want to update your urpmi database
    [root@localhost Desktop]#

When I try enabling update_source medium, it gives out the following error:

Unable to update medium, errors reported:

...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 9 or signal 0

It's impossible to retrieve the list of new packages from the media
`update_source'. Either this update media is misconfigured, and in this case
you should use the Software Media Manager to remove it and re-add it in order
to reconfigure it, either it is currently unreachable and you should retry
    later.

Is the URPMI database down or something like that? or is it a problem with my PC?

  9. Hi,

I brought an external hard drive for my Dell inspiron 1501 laptop. I connect the 750GB external hard drive to my laptop using a USB cable.

The problem is when I try connecting it, Mandriva 2000 says "Error mounting the volume". I am able to boot to windows XP and use the external hard drive. The box said "The external hard drive is formatted in NTFS for my convinience". Now, do I need to do something to make it work with my mandriva?

Request you to please help me as I have huge volume of music in my linux partion which I want to copy it into the external harddrive. Thank you for your time.

  10. Thank you!

    cat /etc/release

would give me my mandriva version. How do I know what architecture I need to use? Mine is an AMD 64 bit processor. Architectures available in easy urpmi are i586,ia64,ppc,x86_64.

Which one do I need to use?

    Does

    urpmi.removemedia -a

    remove all my repos?

  11. "install" was in upper case. So, when I typed "make INSTALL", it gave me a different error message.

    [root@localhost gtkpod-0.99.10]# make INSTALL
make: Nothing to be done for `INSTALL'.

Also, the contents of gtkpod-0.99.10 folder are,

    [root@localhost gtkpod-0.99.10]# ls
    aclocal.m4 configure* intltool-merge.in README
    AUTHORS configure.in intltool-update.in scripts/

    config.log install-sh* NEWS
    config.sub*	intltool-extract.in po/
    [root@localhost gtkpod-0.99.10]#

I just thought the above information would help fix my problem. Hence, i posted it. Thank you.

  12. Thank you. I searched for "gtk+2.0" in the search panel of software management utility in MCC.

It gave me two things and they are already installed (They have a green "check" beside them). Kindly refer the screenshot.

Also, when I try doing a " make install" as root, it throws out the below error.

    [root@localhost gtkpod-0.99.10]# make install
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.
    [root@localhost gtkpod-0.99.10]#

    Kindly helpme with this.

I tried easy URPMI and updated everything including all free and non free softwares. Please see the attached screen shot. When I do easy urpmi again, it says "medium "plf-nonfree" already exists"

What can I do now? How do I get all the missing packages?

Also, how do I know what mandirva am I running? Mandriva 2007 or 2007 spring?

Kindly help me with this. Thank you so much for your time.

  14. Request you to kindly help me installing gnupod in my mandriva machine.

When I do a URPMI on GNUPOD, it says the following

    [root@localhost Desktop]# urpmi gnupod
Some requested packages cannot be installed:
    gnupod-0.99-1mdk.noarch (due to unsatisfied perl-Unicode-String)
    Continue installation anyway? (Y/n)

and when i say Y, nothing happens. It just returns to the command prompt with out installing anything. Can someone kindly help me with this?
