  1. I'm staying with Ubuntu. It is Hoary and the next release so it is still in testing yet. I'll give it some more time. bvc when I disabled sound servers I didn't have any problems all my sounds still work. FX
  2. Well I got Enemy Territory working. Come to find out that Hoary loads esd on startup and for some reason that was blocking ET from starting. I also had no sound in XMMS. I ran killall kill esd and everything seems to start working again. Also in <computer><desktop preference><sound> if you disable the 'sound server' on the first tab that will prevent esd from loading on startup. Couple of people in #ubuntu helped me with that. FX

Try telling the people at Valve that. Now that I've upgrade to Hoary on Ubuntu I can't start ET or Elite anymore. :( FX
  4. I'm tempted, but I'll stay with Ubuntu. FX

You need to add the 6800 Ultra now. :) FX
  6. For those of you Ubuntu users and have your repos pointed to Hoary the next release. Xorg is now up and ready to install. I have it running on here. Only problem I have so far with Hoarty is trying to run Enemy Territory. When I start it all I get is a black screen. If I move my mouse/pointer around i can move that black screen around and see an overly large desktop underneath. Just the one side and the bottom. Not sure whats causing that. FX

Welp just went there and seen what you was looking at cybr and I swapped out the ATI for a nVidia and the price only went up to 1,292.00 which isn't bad. I also added the dvd burner. Yea the hard drive isn't the greatest, but its still workable. FX

With the Alienware box are you able to subsitute the ATI for a nVidia card. I know at Dell you are able to when you setup a box that you want to order. If you could do that I would go with the Alienware. FX

    True Combat Elite

I've been playing the past several nights. Theres only 2 demo maps at this time, but they are both fun. The mod is still in testing/beta form, but runs real well. I've been playing CS:Source also and comparing the two I like True Combat much more. One reason is because its made for linux and free. Also unlike CS:Source it has a linux client. I'm so sick of companies using Linux for a server but can't give a client for us regular users to have. FX
  10. I blasted out an wajig update and then a wajig dist-upgrade. Rebooted and it everything still seems to work. FX
  11. bvc those are actually Hoary repos? Where did you find them and if you have updated whats new? If you could post in the Ubuntu thread. Don't wanna O.T. the heck out of this one. :D FX
  12. Well should be last and final update on this subject. I don't like the fact that I can't "fix" something. With not being able to load windows and having PM8 not be able to partition for linux, I couldn't live with that. So what I did was I went to Maxtor's (hard drive) website and downloaded MaxBlaster 3. Its hard drive utility software. I threw the diskette in and rebooted. Well the software booted I had it format my harddrive (long format) with all 0s. (zeros). It took about 3 hours. After it was all done Windows loaded just fine. Installed PM8 and that made the linux partition just fine also. At this point I'm doing the Windows update. So now I'm happy. I fixed my pc. FX
  13. Arthur I'm not a big fan of PS2 or other console gaming equipment. Thanks for the suggestion though. FX

For you Enemy Territory lovers. Looks like a fun mod and its FREE!!!! FX http://www.truecombat.com/intro.php
  15. Well reb2 you might be right, heres "the rest of the story....." I tried twice to install XP Pro. Had all the updates installed. Then installed AVG anti-virus. Well that hosed up and I couldn't get any updates installed. So I uninstalled it. Next was install Partition Magic 8 and make room for linux. Well I made the changes I wanted in the program and rebooted. Part way through the operation on boot PM 8 hosed up and I wasn't able to boot anymore. So re-install again. This time just did the updates. Installed PM8 and convert from NTFS to Fat32 that went fine. Then tried again to make room for linux. I applied the changes and reboot again for PM 8 to do its thing. Guess what? It hose up again and I couldn't boot up the pc AGAIN!!!! So my next logical answer was throw in the Ubutnu CD format the WHOLE PC to Linux. Not installing XP at all. So thats where I'm at now. Only one pc left in the house running dual boot with XP/Linux. Someday in the future I may build another gaming pc so I can race Nascar and other games that don't work well in Linux. At least now I know when the kids go on any pc in the house I don't have to worry about viruses and crap. The other pc that still dual boots never gets into XP. So there you have it. Windows is now gone forever on that pc. To be honest it is a little heartbreaking because I use to and still do really enjoy racing.  FX
  16. I'm still laughing about it. FX
  17. Wanted to mount my windows partition on my gaming machine. Wasn't really sure on how to do that with Ubuntu. So I went into #Ubuntu and asked a couple of questions and I was finally able to mount my /c drive. Well that really wasn't the spot I was looking for. SO before I umounted it I just happen to run rm -rf /c because that wasn't the mout point I wanted and I wanted to get rid of that mount point. I wanted /windows so I could go everywhere on that partition. Key words in this paragraph "SO before I umounted it I just happen to run rm -rf /c because that wasn't the mout point I wanted". Anyone guess what happen? FX
  18. cybrjackle did you run the install script from XFCE site to install it? FX
  19. Happy Halloween!!!! This one I nominate GTK2 Theme is Bloodline. Wallpaper is something I found on the net. Thanks cybr for the script. FX

  21. Well after cleaning up some of my old stuff I posted on here I can now post this. Just got gdesklets working on here. Kind of a boring background, but it works for now. FX
  22. I like the idea of screenshots seperated by months. Better than going through page after page of screenshots looking for ideas. :) Anyways not voting or nominating this one. Just a simple desktop of me and the wife. Helps me see her everyday while she's working 2000 miles away. :( FX
