  1. Hello, my nforce onboard-audio changes MP3-play velocity by about 150%. If i switch back to console and to X again, i can sometimes reset the sound and it is at 100%. Another thing, i believe it's the same cause, is, that my mouse acts weird if i have sound on in UT2003. If i play it from the live-CD without sound, all works well. But if i try it under LM9, the mouse resets while moving, jumping to the upperright corner. I can tell you, not much fun aiming at someone and inspecting the ceiling instead!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leadtek NCR18D (nforce), NVidia GF-MX4-400, LM9, original NVidia RPM's for all
  2. Not sure, didn't try it further, will do it again, though, thanks. Will contact you.
  3. Hi, i am in front of an LM9 machine, connected through modem (2years old). Now something strange happens: Some times, the connection get's broke out of the blue. Nor the deltatime is the same, either the thing i had been doing, no matter if loading down via ftp or surfing via http. Another strange thing is, that with time going on, surfing get's hung. After a period of time and different open links, i can't open any further links. If i close some of the opened ones, it doesn't matter. The only way out is to kill the connection AND kill the browser and start all again.....
  4. i want to set up this, without the mandrake script, because it activates the firewall and i have to do this on an production-system, where a lot of protocols are used. How do i configure this by hand? Isn't htat just a type of gateway? The connection can be different, LAN,DSL,Modem, etc...
  5. It's all the same... aiming or menues. The mouse jumps around if she wants. ONLY under ut2003, not under X. That's the point making me wonder, thought it'll use the XFree mouse?! IRQ's: Could be. Got a new board and am not sure, what has to be switched off in BIOS for maximum stability. Modem can'T be the thing, but i got several AddOns like LAN and SOUND and i got APIC, will try it now with APIC switched off. Perhaps there's the source for my "jumpy" mouse?!
  6. My mouse is jumping to the top or side of the window while moving around. It's nearly impossible to hit a key or drag something. Has got somebody else solved this problem? I tested a lot of ut2003.ini settings according to windoz-user-problems with mouse, but didn't help. Funny is, that it works with the gentoo/ut2003-Live-CD, where only the XFree-version differs, the settigns are the same...
  7. Why? Well, to easily try out Distros. Want to test several distros and don't want the stress with partitions and so on. After that i want to test clustering, so i need more than one computer
  8. In the moment my system is working well under LM9. But i got a new board with the NForce-chipset and want to upgrade. Are there any things i'll have to do BEFORE i grade it up? Can i add the kernel patch AFTER upgrading or MUST i do it before, perhaps to make him find the ide-controllers?
  9. Had this thousands of times...... In most cases, someone in the biz tried to print letter-size to an A4-paper/printer. Then the job get's done and finished, but the printer does nothing and is ready again. I had looked in the /var/cups-directory and found the spooled files for this printout left over. turning off cups, deleting the files, turning on cups again did help out.
  10. Doesn't work here, whole session is quitting when beginning to install the files... The same with Gentoo....
  11. Hardware RAID is MUCH faster, if done by a suitable controller (SCSI). Software RAID can't be compared, because it uses partitions, not harddrives. As ex. my setup is on two physical harddrives (both 40 GB IBM): Partitions: IDE0: 1. 50MB /boot ---> Ext2 2. 2GB /usr ---> RAID 0 3. 512 MB /var ---> RAID 0 4. 512 MB /home ---> RAID 0+1 5. 512 MB /home ---> RAID 0+1 6. 256MB / ---> RAID 0 7. 128MB /etc ---> RAID 0+1 8. 128MB /etc ---> RAID 0+1 9. 256MB swap ---> RAID 0 10. ~30GB /opt ---> RAID 0 IDE1: 1. 50MB free 2. 2GB /usr ---> RAID 0 3. 512 MB /var ---> RAID 0 4. 512 MB /home ---> RAID 0+1 5. 512 MB /home ---> RAID 0+1 6. 256MB / ---> RAID 0 7. 128MB /etc ---> RAID 0+1 8. 128MB /etc ---> RAID 0+1 9. 256MB swap ---> RAID 0 10. ~30GB /opt ---> RAID 0 RESULT: md0: 4GB /usr md1: 1GB /var md2: 1GB /home md3: 512MB / md4: 256MB /etc md5: 512MB swap md6: ~60GB /opt So he takes the partitions and makes a virtual RAID-Device (md) with the different partitiions on it. The speed is very good for RAID 0.....
  12. Well, i got VERY good experiences with software raid, it worked pretty well. Perhaps think over it. If you are using one controller for two drives with one cable, they are sharing one bottleneck. So, try to connect one drive per cable... You are talking of IDE-RAID, right? That's what i am talking about ;-) For the devision if 0+1 (3 drives) or 10(4 drives), think of the physical arrangement you will have and think about, where will be bottlenecks. That's the most important thing, i think...
  13. was the message, as i tried to add some rpm's. What i did was adding some sources. After the fault, i deleted them, but this did not help out!! Every time i am trying to add some rpm now, he breaks with the error: "Package appears to be installed! This should not happen!" Reminds me to some errors under windoz.... A "rmp --rebuilddb" didn't help. Any ideas?
  14. Well, if i take the script in MCC, he implements firewalling in the LAN. Therefor i got a terminal-net and can't figure out, why he blocks my terminals, because 177 is open, i have to do it manually ;-(
  15. I got the same problem and didn't solve it (needs time i don't have). Perhaps the hint: X opens highports per client above 32000. If you do a netstat with shorewall off and clients logged in, you will see that. Perhaps this highports aren't availabe... I tried shorewall, firestarter, guarddog. All of them block the clients out, although 177/7100 are opened... Following my netstat, while a client is connected: Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State tcp 0 0 server.kanzleirgbp.:xfs arbeitsplatz2.kan:32771 VERBUNDEN tcp 0 0 server.kanzleirgb:32782 arbeitsplatz2.kanzl:x11 VERBUNDEN tcp 0 0 server.kanzleirgb:32770 arbeitsplatz2.kanzl:x11 VERBUNDEN tcp 0 0 server.kanzleirgb:32784 arbeitsplatz2.kanzl:x11 VERBUNDEN tcp 0 0 server.kanzleirgb:33439 arbeitsplatz2.kanzl:x11 VERBUNDEN Aktive Sockets in der UNIX Domäne (ohne Server) Proto RefZäh Flaggen Typ Zustand I-Node Pfad unix 13 [ ] DGRAM 2846 /dev/log unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 363069 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 363051 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 3695 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 3264 unix 3 [ ] STREAM VERBUNDEN 3228 /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 unix 3 [ ] STREAM VERBUNDEN 3227 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 3221 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 3099 unix 3 [ ] STREAM VERBUNDEN 3074 /tmp/.font-unix/fs7100 unix 3 [ ] STREAM VERBUNDEN 3072 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 3059 unix 3 [ ] STREAM VERBUNDEN 3076 /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 unix 3 [ ] STREAM VERBUNDEN 3044 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 2980 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 2918 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 2870 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 2857 PLEASE DON'T forget to post it, if you solved this, i am searching for this since months, but my firewalling (espacially iptables) knowledge is too bad, for this :-(
  16. hm.... I just ran the configure (or similar, can't remember exactly) script et voilá, gkrellm told me that stuff. Is it uncommon that this works so easy?
  17. I got a BIG problem: I am administrering a small biz with a terminal X-net. Every three to 10 days, the server freezes or does not accept any further logins. Therefor there are only four clients, this is strange. I think, that the server keeps sessions alive, so no more highports are available at a time, but i am not sure. Does somebody know how to look into the session management to find the error?
  18. ----------------------------------------- REDEFINITION OF MY POST ----------------------------------------- How do i set up internet-sharing MANUALLY? I don't wnat somew scripts doing something on my server. I saw that named will be installed then. Is it a kind of routing? Or what do i have to think of? I got two NIC: One to the outer world, on to LAN. What do i have to change on this machine, that everyone in the LAN will get into the internet?
  19. ..and you deleted all .openoffice, the root one, too? hm, try one thing, add a new user and try ooffice with him, to figure out, if the old home-files do influence it..
  20. I removed and added my printer several times, now i can add what i want, he tells my that he can't find module "parport_probe". As i looked at another machine, i could not find ANY module with that name. But there all works well (inclusive adding). I tried with firewall off, no difference. No internetsharing, just a single machine. Any Ideas???
  21. Hi tYY, ok, i'll give it a try now. Thx
  22. Hello, i got a server which servs X-Sessions, right, a terminal server. This one is directly connected to DSL via ethernet. This server got two NIC, one to dsl, one to LAN. I only wanted to set three or four ports beeing open on the ppp0-device, but didn'T find out how to handle. Every iptables-based firewall is far to complex for my needs. I just want him to allowe three or four ports in and out on the ppp-device, that's all. Reading manuals about iptables didn't help me much, don'T know enough about protocols. I tried guarddog, but it does filter the intranet, too. Therefor there must be a port, that i need, which is not mentioned somewhere, guarddog blocks my clients from getting a login screen. Yes, XDMCP/XFS/X-ports are open (for real i allowed EVERYTHING in "LAN" and "local"). I think, the problem is, that X makes highport-sessions, that are filtered and that it is not possible to define ports per port or protocol. I tried to add a third zone, for the LAN, but didn't help. Another problem is, that guarddog defines zones over IP's, but i need a firewall on a device, ppp0. Let's say, i need only http/https/ssh/ftp on the ppp0. What should i do?
  23. Just for me, to figure it out: You did a fresh install of LM9 with deleting or formatting the old partition/files, no rests of the old installation in your /usr or /opt path? You installed OOffice, delivered by the distribution?
  24. And you can change your inittab file, and kick away "dm". Just take this: # # inittab This file describes how the INIT process should set up # the system in a certain run-level. # # Author: Miquel van Smoorenburg, <miquels@drinkel.nl.mugnet.org> # Modified for RHS Linux by Marc Ewing and Donnie Barnes # # Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are: # 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this) # 1 - Single user mode # 2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking) # 3 - Full multiuser mode # 4 - unused # 5 - X11 # 6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this) # id:5:initdefault: # System initialization. si::sysinit:/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit l0:0:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 0 l1:1:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 1 l2:2:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 2 l3:3:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 3 l4:4:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 4 l5:5:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 5 l6:6:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 6 # Things to run in every runlevel. ud::once:/sbin/update # Trap CTRL-ALT-DELETE ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t3 -r now # When our UPS tells us power has failed, assume we have a few minutes # of power left. 25. Start with the XDMCP HowTo, then with the TippsAndTricks inside this Forum and then, i think, there's hopefully nothing left of interest, that'S unknown to you ;-)
