  1. Ok, now I have solved it. Unfortunately I didn't understand what was bad. I simply removed the java package I downloaded from the official site, and I installed the package java-1.6.0-sun (from the non-free sources of the i586 version of Mandriva Spring) via urpmi. (As suggested by orts). Now everything works. Thank you very much to you all for your attempts.
  2. Thank you to you for the answer. The link seems to be ok, and I have closed and reopen firefox before trying. If I remove the link, stuff changes, in that case I get the icon "missing plugin" when viewing a page with some java. Instead with the link in its place I dont get those icons, but simply the part of the window that should contain the java applet is empty. Those links actually have effects. Here is the output of about:plugins. I'm not expert, but it seems ok. 3. Uhh, I only searched for jre or j2re, and i didn't find anythink. So I downloaded the package from the official site. Now I have found the package you say on urpmi. I will try again with the package I have for a bit, then I will try the package on urpmi. Thank you very much.
  4. I have Mandriva 2007 Spring for x86_64. I removed the x86_64 version of Firefox, and I installed the i586 version, from the Main32 source. I tried to play on yahoo games, but, at the page for loading the game, I got the icon "missing plugins". I loaded the page "Verifying Installation" at www.java.com but I got the icon "missing plugins". I downloaded the java runtime environment from the Sun website, it is the 1.6.0_01 version: jre-6u1-linux-i586-rpm.bin I run it, and it installed without errors. Then I made a symbolic link to /usr/java/jre1.6.0_01/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so And i put it in /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.3/plugins If I run # java -version I get java version "1.6.0_01" Java SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_01-b06) Java HotSpot Client VM (build 1.6.0_01-b06, mixed mode, sharing) In the firefox preferencies window, under the Content tab, I selected Enable Java and Enable JavaScript. I loaded again the page "Verifying Installation" at www.java.com. This time, I didn't get the icon "missing plugins", but I didn't see the applet running. I tried to play on yahoo games, but even there I didn't get the icon "missing plugins" any more, but the games don't load. Everithing seems fine, but Java does not work. What can I do? I can post the output of other commands, if needed. Thanks.

    Lisa

Thank you for the link, now I understand lisa better. As I don't have lisa installed, the protocol lan:/ in konqueror is "unknown". Now I know that I can live without it, and I also can try to set it up properly. In the site I found this: Now, the subnet mask of my home network is 255.0.0.0. If I understood the quote, it seems that my lisa had to issue more than 16 millions of pings to check my network. Maybe this is why it uses so much cpu and it hangs my network. I will try to reinstall it and set the config file with a smaller range of addresses.

Thank you. You are right, I can keep things this way. I'm happy without lisa. I only would like to know what I am missing. I other words: what is this lisa supposed to do? I tried to google for it in Google Linux, but as there are many other meanings of the word, I could find few infos, I only found that is part of kdenetworks. Now you tell me that it is useful for accessing windows PC. Can I have a bit more infos?

    Lisa

Hi, I have some problems with LISa, I mean the LAN Informations Server. I don't know very mutch what's LISa for, nor why I have this installed, but I now that it causes me a lot of troubles. Sometimes I find that my network connectivty is suddenly lost. Sometimes I find that one of my games that used to play smoothly, now is very slow. By looking at KSysGuard I found out that when one of these two events happens, the LISa daemon is taking up 80-95% of my cpu. I had the very same problem with Mandrake 10.0 and Mandriva 2006. The solution I found is simple: I disable LISa from the System Services. Or better I don't install it at all, if I remember. In this way the problems mentioned before does not presents again. But is this the right solution? What I miss this way? Is this LISa so useless? Is there a way for preventing it from doing harm to my connectivity or to my games without loosing its services (services I don't know what are for)?
  8. Hi guys, I again want to thank you all for the help I could have from you and from reading other posts in this forums. Now I have direct rendering enabled with memory set to Sideport+UMA, so I got what I was searching for. I don't know exactly what was bad before (Maybe I messed up things in my xorg.conf ), I simply did a complete reinstall, installed the packages suggested by cymbaloum, and stuff worked. There is again a little strange thing, but I think I will ask it in a new thread, as it is probably not related with ati radeon stuff.
  9. Well, it worked, in some sense. I had to change my BIOS settings, changing the type of memory for my video card from Sideport to UMA. (See the link in my last post). Now I have DRI enabled, but my fps in glxgears are still very poor (650 fps). This is not satisfying anyway, as I have to sacrifice all the benefits that my card could give me, i.e. dedicated memory, and this has effects also on my WinXP system. The article I found said that also the setting Sideport+UMA should work, but actually it didn't work for me. In any case, thank you for the help.
  10. Thank you very much, I tried with your packages, and I am quite sure that the drivers were installed correctly. If, via XFdrake, I choose fglrx without 3D accel. everything is fine. If I enable 3D accel., I get a black screen, and my consolle freezes (also Ctrl+Alt+Bkspace or Ctr+Alt+F1 doesn't work). I think there is an issue with my card, it is an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. The official ATI documentation for linux fglrx drivers states that it is compatible, but I fear it is not. I will google for it... Well I found something, I post it here as somebody with my card may find it useful... Setting up ATI Radeon XPress 200M under Linux Tomorrow I will try even this...
