  1. The problem is your scan was done too fast, which is why it asked for your password - it didn't recognise your fingerprint. I have it working fine once I did the scan slower originally when I created the fingerprint image.

    No, too many failed scans look like this:

    $ su

    Scan left index finger on AuthenTec AES1610

    Scan didn't quite work. Please try again.

  3. drag the home icon from the kickoff menu (it is under favorites) to the panel (or desktop), there used to be one in the normal kmenu but is seems gone....

    edit: it is under system menu and has to be enabled in panel settings, you can also drag the home icon in the konqueror side panel to the desktop or panel.

  4. create a file called Home.desktop and copy and paste the following into it

  5. The files aren't going anywhere... they just get deleted.

    The trashbin in Linux is virtual and desktop-dependent. All the major Linux filesystems (ext3, reiserfs 3.X, xfs) do not use/support unerase, and this is done on purpose.

    Recovery of deleted file in reiserfs is possible using the reiserfstools, while with ext3 and xfs is more miss and less hit- and certainly enough not such an easy task.

    To sum up, no, there's no way to delete those files into the recycle bin, and no, they don't occupy any space, anywhere- they get permanently deleted.

    This is not quite correct, files moved to trash in the home directory should end up in /home/<user-name>/.local/share/Trash whereas files deleted from other media should end up in <mount point>/.Trash-<user-name>

    I have never used GNOME in MDV but the below bug report is how it works in Ubuntu (GNOME) and according to MDV devs should in MDV KDE aswell

  7. no i can modprobe ithowever

    what I want to add that once in a while the fan does become quite after about 10 mins of booting into mdv but it will usually turn on again, most of the time the laptop does scale down to 800MHz

  8. under linux this laptop (acer aspire 9100) seems a lot noisier than xp, the fan always stays on even though the cpu seems to scale down, how do I solve this?
