  1. ok..i have just uninstall kat! Thanks for the nice advice guys!! By the way, now i won't get any such KDE crash pop-up again, will i? That was really irritating..i was getting that at beginning, but never cared about it until i get it coming infinetly :( Thanks so much guys for your nice help! Keep up the good work!
  2. Ixthusdan in the mag, i saw only this source unfortunately: http://forums.pcquest.com/forum/ But i guess this might be enough, since it is the source forum of that distro just like here for Mandriva...just browse the 2006 version. Well, myself, it is the first time i came across this distro..and never found it on net or at distrowatch.. Tell me your views.. Regards!
  3. Hello everyone.. I recently bought a linux mag in which i got free CDs fo PCQLinux 2006. Being curious about it, i tried it. It offers a large pletora of programs for all purposes. Very nice programs in it. But the cons i saw was: 1) The installations are too irritating..each time you have to read a lot of its user-agreement before some of the installations can be done. 2) The desktop is not really userfriendly. 3) There is not such thing as "devices" in its desktop nor in its startup, which is inconvenient 4) It could not detect my other common partitions unlike Mandriva which did it automatically. 5) While installing, it only creates a root account unlike mandriva Some questions: a) Why is PCQLinux not figured on distrowatch? i looked for it there, did not find it.. b ) Why does the mozilla in PCQLinux loads websites more faster than the one in Mandriva 2006 Some thoughts: i) Mandriva could provide those loads of useful programs like those provided by PCQ. I find all these softwares very nice and helpful..no hastle of searching and downloading..you just have to pick one at "home". ii) If Mandriva and PCQ combined their installation options..this would have been perfect :) Last but not the least, a striking feature i noticed was that PCQ offered a "Grid technology related software ". Well, thats all i found in using PCQ for some few hours ;) (But i will try all those many progs soon :) ) All views are welcomed.. Cheers!
  4. ok..i will try this and report back ;)
  5. Thanks for taking the trouble to read all this neddie!! How to unistall Kat ? But if i do that, then KDE will not work, will it?

  10. ok.. Hey btw, i have searched for klamav or related anti-virus on kanotix' star-menu and it is nowhere :( ??
  11. wow..nice! By the way, does the clamav in kanotix and in mandriva has an on-access/real-time detection??
  12. ok, thanks everybody... You can mark this topic as [solved] now ;)
  13. ok.. But i was talking about something and you finally started jokes on it..i don't find it fun! I like to crack jokes, BUT i think there are special topics and corners for this! Anyway, thanks for the people who have shown some light in this infinite tunnel! THANKS ALOT!! ~ Closed ~
  14. Yeah, i have the latest Java envirinment installed... But it's weird, how can that log be present on both?? Never used applets at same time.. But anyways, from your link i guess that it not serious ;)
  15. From the kanotix's site: 1) But how can i use it's liveCD to make analysis, data rescue and specially removal of viruses on Win-PCs? 2) Here by "safe surfing", it means what? Does it has some more features for safe surfing than madriva 2006? Thanks for your attention! Regards!
  16. I have 2pcs at home and each of them is connected simultaneoulsy on Internet via a router. One is running linux(mandriva 2006) and the other is running windows. Today while i noticed something weird: I noticed that on both my pcs, there was a log file: "hs_err_pidxxxxxx.log"; where xxxx is an interger value On the linux, it was present on my home folder and on the windows one, it was on the desktop. When i opened it on a text editor, the main header on each was: "An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine". And then there were many data and binary numbers about my pc...it listed the hardwares, the system running on each and some more data which i cannot interpret. I found this unusual but i don't know if it something to worry about?? Please can you advcie me? Thanks!
  17. Yeah definetly, if you use a proxy or hide your IP, you are already a step further! By the way, is a program like GhostSurf 2005 good? I mean anyone who have ever tried it..may be you could share your experience with such a program?
  18. Yeah you are definetly right in your approach Gowator! Very nice, i enjoyed your post!
  19. Very nice help!!! Thank you so much EVERYBODY!!!! By the way, scarecrow though NTFS is less susceptible to fragmentations..it does require a defragmentation at least once in a while ;) Because whenever there is storage of data in clusters, there will be fragmentations in the long run ;) But yeah i agree that defragmenting every day is a waste of time and stupid :P Regards!
  20. Nice to hear you bought a router! There is now no problem.. perhaps you will just need to configure your eth0 in linux which is easy to do.. Now the real show show begins ;) To remove the ppp0 interface just do as ianw1974 told and all will be fine ;) In case you are new to linux, here is the full codes: 1) Open a terminal or bash prompt and type the following: 2) cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts 3) ls -1 4) su (supply your root password) 5) rm ifcfg-ppp0 6) It will prompt you if you want to rely delete, just say YES And you are done! --------------- And a side note: For your router, have your supplier made all the configurations for you? If no, you have to setup your router by yourself and there is a user-guide manual accompanied with your router. This will help you step-by-step in setting up your router. But, i guess your supplier should have already done this for you ;) All the best!
  21. yeah, i have experiment with http proxies, that to make my browser use a proxy.. but this is not always nice since each time you have to look for an available proxy that suits you, but still the risk as you said! Till, has there been any software or anything concerning this for linux? I have seen some programs like "CGIProxy 2.1 Beta11 for Linux" and some others...but from the reviews, it seems that these programs are not really confirm to be stable and effective. ~ Updated: ~ I have just come across this http://anonycat.com/ What are your opions guys?
  22. yeah may be something like this..but i wonder if there is any other ways? (and anonymizer is not meant for linux..)
  23. oh..i see  But, is there any software for such a purpose for linux? (just curious about it)
  24. Does understanding LInux (kernel and its system) make you a better programmer..etc? And will this make you more strong in understanding windows or any other piece of software? Discuss and share your expereince..either as a programmer or someone who enjoys self-teaching computer stuffs.. (hope we will have a nice time and will learn something new each in our own way!) Regards!
