  2. I am using Mandriva 2006 and have sucessfully installed my wireless LAN card using ndiswrapper. I have set my access point (i) not broadcasting its SSID and (ii) using WPA-PSK data encryption. The only problem is that I cannot connect my wireless LAN card with the access point unless I enable the SSID broadcasting. Is there anything that I can do? Thanks a lot! ;)
  3. Thanks again for the advice. I have tried to unplug my only usb device (i.e. palm cradle), but the system still hanged after I type linux noapic noacpi in loading Madriva 2005 LE.
  4. Thanks for the advance. After I have unchecked apic and acpi in Mandrake Control Centre - boot option, the system still hang when start loading pcmcia module. (PNP has been default disabled in BIOS) If I tried to boot it from Mandriva 2005 LE, pressed F1, type linux noapic noacpi, and then pressed 'Enter', the system still hanged after entering the graphic install mode.
  5. My computer is installed with one PCI LAN card and 1 pcmcia slot with a Buffalo WLI-CB-54 wireless LAN card. When I tried to install Mandriva 2005 LE with the download DVD. The system will freeze after I pressed 'Enter' to start the installation process. If I remove the wireless LAN card, the installation process can go smooth. But once I insert the wireless LAN card once again into the pcmcia slot, the system will freeze again (no matter it is during installatoin or after the Mandriva 2005 LE system has been loaded). So how can I install/configure the wireless LAN card into the system?
  6. Any updates in using broadcom chipset pcmcia wireless lan card in Mandrake 9.2?
  7. I have tried it before but the program (i.e. 127.0.0.1:18028) didn't recognize a device for the driver. Should I delete the module to bind in /etc/pcmcia/config ?
  8. I can finally load the pcmcia module by changing the /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia to PCMCIA=yes PCIC=yenta_socket However, according to http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html , my Buffalo WLI-CB-G54 pcmcia card should be using Broadcom chipset. What module should I ask the kernel to bind in /etc/pcmcia/config? I choose orinoco as I cannot find something suitable. How can I add WLI-CB-G54 as new LAN device before I can config it?
  9. Buffalo WLI-CB-G54 wireless pcmcia lan card in Ricoh compatible cardbus controller. I tried to start the pcmcia module in Kde 3 but failed to do so.
  10. The latest progress is that the wireless broadband router has been successfully set up in WinXP. However, I cannot load the pcmcia-cs module in my Mnadrake 9.2. How can I do? Is there any tutorial on this topic?
  11. I am planning to buy a Buffalo wireless broadband router to connect my WinXP/Linux with ADSL modem. Someone told me that it is not easy to establish the connection, probably owing to the lack of Linux driver. Is that true?
  12. Perhaps I can share my successful experience in using Ghost to restore Mandrake 9.1 in my harddisk. First of all, my harddisk is installed with WinXP and Mandrake 9.1. WinXP is in my first partition and Mandrake 9.1 in my second and so on parititions. I installed Grub in my MBR to multiboot WinXP and Mandrake. After restore Mandrake in my harddisk using Ghost, it will load Grub but halt immediately. What I need to do is to use a Mandrake floppy boot disk to load the Mandrake, login as root and run the install Grub script in /boot/grub directory (of course you need to change it to 700 before it can be executed). Everything should work fine then! :P
  13. Help! After following the steps mentioned by aru, I am able to run the xvidtune in XWindows. However, when I try to optimize the width & height, I hearad the monitor switching to other refresh rate and in some cases cannot display the screen correctly. Is there any formula which I can calculate the values in the Modeline for 1024 x 768 @ 75Hz?
  14. My monitor, which was bought a few years ago, works best at 75Hz in 1027 x 768 resolution. At present, my monitor will be unstable and the screen will start to blink if it is kept 85 Hz for more than 1.5 hours. That's why I need to change it to 75Hz. For MS Windows environment, as the refresh rate is set to 75Hz, there is no such a problem.
  15. aru, Thanks for your advice. The fact is that I have been using 1024 x 768 resolution @ 85Hz in X Window since I installed Mandrake 9.1. It seems to me that there isn't such entry in the config file but only one for 1024 x 480 @85Hz.
  16. I have read the FAQ for XFree86 at http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=4488. The relevant section for my XFree86Config-4 is quoted below - Section "Monitor" Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Plug'n Play" ModelName "MAG XJ700T" HorizSync 30-70 VertRefresh 50-120 # Sony Vaio C1(X,XS,VE,VN)? # 1024x480 @ 85.6 Hz, 48 kHz hsync ModeLine "1024x480" 65.00 1024 1032 1176 1344 480 488 494 563 -hsync -vsync # TV fullscreen mode or DVD fullscreen output. # 768x576 @ 79 Hz, 50 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 50.00 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630 # 768x576 @ 100 Hz, 61.6 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 63.07 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616 EndSection How can I modify it to use 75Hz in 1024 x 768 mode? According to XFree86 calculator, the Dot Clock should be 75.75 MHz.
  17. Dear all, Is there anyway to mount IDE Fujitsu 340MO drive to Linux system. I do not know what parameter to be used in the 'mount' command. Computerlove :?
  18. Does anybody know the solution for the following problem which is encountered by me and reported by others MandrakeSoft Bugzilla - LM9.1 final Reboot command brings messages Switching to runlevel: 6 INIT sending procedures the TERM signal and then the prompt appears as this: <hostname>$ ;2R -bash: syntax error near unexpected token `;' and brings the prompt again. If at this prompt I type `halt', the shutdown process continues normally and the system reboots. If I type reboot again, system shuts down immediately with all the `nice' consequences like unmounted fs with errors etc. ------- Additional Comment #1 From Dimitrios Bakakis 2003-03-30 18:52 ------- The same problem occurs on my machine. It happens only on the shell. When I type 'halt' or 'reboot' into a terminal in kde or gnome it shuts down properly. But it´s really annoying to startx every time I want to reboot or shut down the system. (Just in case it matters, I have only 64MB RAM which causes bug 3053/2950.) ------- Additional Comment #2 From sergei@stams.strath.ac.uk 2003-03-31 14:00 ------- I have 256M of memory, so it shouldn't be related. Seems like a script bug. ------- Additional Comment #3 From Christophe Combelles 2003-04-11 17:08 ------- I have the same bug. I think this is related to UTF-8 mode. Could you confirm your setup is UTF-8 ? (in /etc/sysconfig/i18n) ------- Additional Comment #4 From sergei@stams.strath.ac.uk 2003-04-11 19:50 ------- On Friday 11 Apr 2003 4:08:pm, ccomb wrote: Yes, it is. I attach my /etc/sysconfig/i18n file. Thank you. The original thread can be found at http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3558
