  1. Hi, I recently installed Mandriva 2006 x86_64 on my notebook. I didn't seem to have any problems with the installation. But after I had to take out my DVD and reboot the LILO came with an error and it has been doing that ever since. The error I get is as follows: You passed an undefined mode number. Press return <RETURN> to see video modes available, <SPACE> to continue or wait 30 secs. And then Mandriva boots. I don't sem to get the picture of the penguin during the boot-proces. During boot-proces, everything happens in text-mode. After that I get the graphical login-screen and I can start using my desktop. At first I thought it was a problem with a bad DVD/CD. But I've tried my Powerpack-version and my Free-version, but they both give me the same error with the LILO. :o I hope someone can help me out. Thanks in advance.
  2. Thanks cybrjackle, the "External Amplifier" did the trick. By the way, I have an Acer Ferrari 4005WLMi.
  3. It is named snd-atiixp-modem. After I put it in the blacklist, I will have to reboot I presume? Oke, rebooted now. By the way, I've checked the file /etc/hotplug/blacklist for the entry snd-atiixp-modem and it is present in the file, but I still have no sound when I try to play the test-sound. And lsmod | grep modem also gives me nothing, that means the module is no longer loaded. Am I correct? But why can't I hear a test-sound then? Thansk in advance.
  4. @cybrjackle: Thanks for your reply. But when entering lsmod | grep modem as root, I'm getting bash: lsmod: command not found. Did you give me the wrong command or am I doing something wrong here? Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks for replying on such short notice. But I've just started with Fedora. Could you tell me how I should do that?
  6. I've recently installed Fedora Core 4 x86_64 on my laptop. But I seem to jhave problems with my onboard soundcard. After I've updated my kernel to the most recent one, the soundcard gets detected correctly. So fa so good. By the way, the soundcard is a ATI IXP SB400 AC'97 controller and the following sound-module gets loaded: snd-atiixp. I've checked Volume-control and nothing is muted. But when trying to play a Test-sound, I hear nothing. Now I know this is not a Fedora-board, but I hope with so many registered users here, that there might be someone who can help me out here. Thanks in advance.
  7. Have you checked the IBM site for these kind of issues? Maybe, they can provide you with an alternative way to access your bios.
  8. I can't remember exactly with which key you can enter the bios on a IBM. But most of the time you press one of the following keys before the LILO loads. - F1 - F2 - Del - F10 I hope you can enter your bios, by using one of the keys I mentioned above. And maybe some other board-members, know the exact keys to use.
  9. Have you checked both xorg.conf files? And how do they differ from each other?
  10. I've only tried the drivers from the ATi-site. And they worked for me from day one. The problem with the drivers from the ATi-site is, is that it doesn't support all their video-cards. Only more recent ones. I have found that is one biggest disadvantages of their drivers. But the topic-starter has a 9600XT and that shouldn't have been a problem, normally. That's what I find peculiar.
  11. Oke. Was just being curious. I know the ATisite isn't much help, but I managed to install both the i586 and the x86_64 version. It took me a while, but in the end it was worth my while. :D
  12. I'm sorry but I just don't understand why you didn't install the ATi-drivers from the ATi-site? I've installed them on my system and my X700 runs like hell.
  13. Do you still have Kat installed? I would advise to uninstall Kat, as it is not fully stable and uses a lot of resources. Just go to your konsole as root and urpme kat
  14. Thanks chalex20. The first thing I checked were the "File associations", but I couldn't find the right entry. But with your help, my problem is solved. Thanks again.
  15. Something went wrong on my desktop, I can't exactly pinpoint the cause and I managed to get everything back up and running. Except for a small detail. On my desktop I have a few icons. Also some of the standard icons, which are installed bij Mandriva 2006. Now when I double-click on the icon Home AmaroK opens and starts to play my music. But I would prefer it when I can change it back to its default, when it opens my /home with Konqueror. How do I do this? Thanks in advance.

    DVD Backup

I'd have to say k9copy or DVDshrink. Both of which you can install with easy urpmi. And yes I know. But there is also a program called DVDshrink for Linux. Lookes quite different from the windows program. My personal favorite is still k9copy though.
  17. Thanks for your quick response. I've changed the splash screen to an other one. I was already familiar with this solution, but what I meant was, that I would prefer a splash screen like the one with the penguin from Mandriva 2006 with the KDE 3.5 in it. Sorry if I wasn't to clear on that. But I've changed it now to the standard KDE 3.5 splash screen and I'm satisfied with this solution. B) Thanks for your input and time. :)
  18. I've done a complete, clean install of cooker on one of my computers. I'm having no problems at the moment, just 2 minor issues which I can't seem to resolve. First of all, I'm running KDE 3.5 but the splash screen of KDE still says KDE 3.4. What do I need to upgrade or install to change this? And second, when I press the Mandriva star on the left side of the taskbar to open a program, it still says KDE 3.4 Free. How can I remove this entry or better change it to KDE 3.5? Thanks in advance.
  19. In the mean time, the problem solved itself. Apparently, the server was being updated. Could have known.
  20. Oke, thanks very much for your info. I'm sorry bout the obvious question, I should read first. Sorry bout that. :woops:
  21. Is this Xorg-version also in the cooker-depositories, or only in the ones of SeerofSould? And if so, can I install this Xorg in combination with with cookr? Thanks in advance.
  22. I've downloaded boot.iso and wanted to try and install cooker on one of my systems. Everything goes oke, but I seem to run in to same error, no matter what cooker-server I seem to choose. I'm getting an error when it is trying to install udev. And it asks me same question, if I want to go on or abort. Till now, I aborted the installation, because of the error. This is all the information I get on this error. Can I go on with the installation proces or should I retry with an other installation? And what is causing this error? Thanks in advance.
  23. Did you also install the appropriate kernel-source for your kernel?
  24. Mmm, I don't get it. Where do you get this error, at boot-up or in Mandriva/Mandrake as you already have Mandrake 10.1 installed?
