  1. Just being curious. But what is HTB?
  2. Hi, I've recently installed FC5 on my notebook. All went well during the installation and all looks oke. Except for a strange error that occurs after the Grub has gone. The error states the following: Uncompressing Linux.. Ok booting the kernel MP-BIOS bug: 8254 Timer not connected to IO-APIC. Does someone has a clue as to what is going wrong here? And better as to what I can do about it. Thanks in advance.
  3. Mine would be SuSE 7.3. I bought the box, with the manual at the local computer-store with a little discount. I still have the box around, for nostalgic reasons. ;)
  4. Many thanks cybrjackle. I saw a number of posts of you on http://forums.fedoraforum.org/ but I've failed to see the one you gave me. Thanks again.
  5. Just being curious. I've recently installed FC5. But I keep reading about some kernel issues and troubles with 3D-acceleration. First of all, which kernel had these issues, as I'm currently runnin kernel 2.6.16-2080_FC5. Is this the patched one already? Secondly, I haven't found any sites which explains of how to set up Yum for FC5. They all talk about FC4 and FC3. And thirdly, is the issue of 3D-acceleration solved? I would like to install my graphic-card drivers, though I haven't figured out exactly of how to do that in FC5. I'm sorry of the questions I have, about a distro other then Mandriva. But you guys on this board have helped me out a lot in the past. And as I saw the amount of posts concerning FC5, I thought I give it a try.
  6. Why is there a flac.rpm then? Perhaps for playing then in Amarok? By the way, thanks for your input.
  7. Forgive my ignorance. But why doesn't the xine-engine work with Amarok then?
  8. So I didn't even need the flac-rpm, I installed with easy-urpmi?
  9. Oke, I understand. But when installing win32codecs with easy-urpmi from only x86_64-sources, there is a i586-version installed. Does this mean that the i586-version also doesn't work when installed on a x86_64-system? And does this also apply on the xine-engine for amarok? I would find this a little bit strange, because there is x86_64-version of the xine-engine installed with amarok. The aRts-engine works with no problems.
  10. Thanks, for your reply ianw1974. But it was easier then I thought. I installed flac with easy-urpmi. Then I loaded K3b and imported those .flac-files into an audio-cd project and K3b started burning. No problems. :D
  11. Hi, as I was downloading some bootlegs, I was wondering. Those bootlegs appears to be .flac-files. Is it possible to burn those files on a cd as an audio-cd? For example, using K3b. If so, how do I go about this? Thanks for any input.
  12. Hi, I'm currently running Mandriva 2006 x86_64 on my desktop. Now I would like to setup Amarok by using the xine-engine. I've tried playing mp3's with it, but it seems to hang. I can play them using the aRts-engine. Is this a common bug with Amarok and Mandriva 2006 x86_64 or am I doing something wrong? By the way, I'm using Amarok version 1.3.1. Any help would be appreciated.
  13. Nice review Arctic. As I'm downloading FC5 now, I can't share my experiences, yet. But I've been playing around with version Test-2 of FC5, and was very pleased. I'm also curious about getting my ATi X700 configured. As it was a pain at first. As was my soundcard.
  14. @ jethro and scarecrow: Thanks for the additional info. :)
  15. Are all RPMs, that one installs placed in that directory, by the way?
  16. It *may* work once, but then you will attempt mixing Official and Cooker a second time, then a third, at at the fourth attempt you will simply have a borked system, needing cfdisking. i see your point. But I'm only using Firefox from the Cooker-sources and I'am not tempted to use anything else. I must say that I was afraid at first that my system was getting borked with cooker rpms. But I've been using it for quite a while without any problems.
  17. Why not try the Cooker rpm instead? i've used both the rpm from SoS and Cooker, and the one from Cooker runs with no complains on my machine. As for the rpm from SoS, I ran into different problems.
  18. Oke, devries thanks fot your input. So far I manged to solve the problem by changing the available Video-driver to gl2. But that didn't solve the problem entirely. As I was playing the files directly from CD, the problem still remained. After I copied the files to hte hard-drive, the problem was solved. But why can't I play the files directly from my CD?
  19. Thanks for your fast reply. But I'm using MPlayer with the MPayer-gui, so how do change the -vo with the gui?
  20. Hi, when trying to play Divx or Xvid-files with MPlayer, I'm getting an Fatal error. The strange thing is, I can play those files using Kaffeine with no problem. Win32-codecs are installed. The Fatal error comes with the following message: Error: opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. I only hope one of you can help me out here. By the way, I only seem to have this error whenb trying to open these files on my laptop, on which I installed Mandriva 2006 x86_64. My desktop, with Mandriva 2006 i586, has no problems what so ever with playing these files on MPlayer. Thanks in advance.
  21. Well I really wouldn't know. But I guess your guess is as good as any. If the error somehow comes back, I will post my lilo.conf first. Anyway, thanks for the replies and the time you've taken guys.
  22. Thanks for the replies guys. But I just don't get it. Really. :o The problem seem to solve itself. I rebooted just about ten times, but I don't get any errors with the LILO anymore and I didn't change anything. How can this happen?
  23. By the way, I've tried both the scan mode and try to give a Video-mode manually. But my laptop boots in the same as I've posted here above. So no penguin. And after reboot I get the same error with LILO.
