  1. "Have you voted for it? Transgaming really do follow the community on what games to support. But being the astute fellow that you are, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that :P"

Only people who actuall pay are allowed to vote. Me, I just mess around with Wine while eying Cedega. In fact I'm going to give regression testing a shot this weekend (I actually don't know what I am doing but I hope it will work out anyway... :P Git, here I come).

"I remember in the old WineX days there were countless arguments here and elsewhere about whether or not the project (now called Cedega) did more good or harm to Linux gaming. I don't want to strike it up again, but I think Cedega is awesome."

Well, your opinion is appreciated. Are you using 6.0 already?

Myself, I think it is very importand that as many people as possible get behind Wine, because they care about getting the building blocks "right". The goal of both projects is just different. Then again most of the Cedega crowd (I mean, the users of Cedega) wouldn't have helped out with Wine anyway. In other words I still have no clear opinion on it but I don't really care as long as everyone's happy.

If I ever get Cedega (for the purpose of playing games... like Oblivion, Prince of Persia, Dreamfall, etc. etc.), I'll probably still try to help out with Wine (for the purpose of making Wine better, and therefore making using Linux more comfortable). One thing putting me off Cedega a bit is their focus on online games... I play none, I prefer single-player. And those don't always seem to get the same kind of attention.

I'm still waiting on Everquest 2 support...but I don't think we'll see that anytime soon.

  2. How about a graveyard overgrown with trees and plants?

opvask: Liked your forest theme. Wish I could find some like that "double wide" for a dual screen setup.

(Mystified wouldn't like a forest theme unless there were vampyres in the branches. :P )

  3. did not mean "Cyberia 2"? I have that game hidden away somewhere...could never get past the part where you're driving and have to shoot down those ships or whatever.

    Cyberia = 3D Action/Adventure game

Syberia = Graphical point&click adventure game (the "puzzle" kind of game)

I never played KQ7 or 8, just up to 5. You reminded me of it...so I just bought the compilation that is supposed to run perfectly on XP, so it might work under wine (I don't know).

The problem with my "original" (single CD/box, retail) discs was that it couldn't finish the installation routine (still heavily dos-based). So if they have changed the installation method then yes, I figure you might have more luck. If you get it to run, please let me know.

[edited by tyme to fix quotes]

  4. Couldn't get them to run. Neither KQ7 or KQ8 (although... who'd want to run *that*?).

I did get to run a fair number of other ones though:

    - Deus Ex (fully playable - in fact I’m replaying it right now, superb game)

    - Anachronox (playable)

    - Dreamfall (not fully playable)

    - Quest For Glory V: Dragon Fire (playable)

    - Gabriel Knight II and III (fully playable - playable)

    - The RPGmaker 2000 titles Laxius Power I, II, III (playable)

    - Oni (playable)

    - Secret Files: Tunguska (fully playable)

    - Paradise (playable)

    - The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Tribunal, Bloodmoon (playable)

    - Escape From Monkey Island (fully playable)

    - Syberia II (fully playable)

    - Call of Duty (fully playable)

    - Max Payne (fully playable)

    - Guild Wars (playable)

    * when I say “playable”, it means that it runs but it’s not perfect.

    Not a bad list :)

  5. Maybe they just don't want to write any closed-source software and have their future employers "steal" their work and Intellectual Property from them...

    Now there's a different perspective! :)

As for myself, some of the most important reasons I didn't get into programming because

    a ) I was afraid I wouldn't be good enough at it

b ) the market for programmers seemed pretty saturated already at that time

c ) I liked to keep my options open

So I went to get my MA as a translator instead (English/French/Dutch).

  6. I prefer blowing them up with explosives from a safe distance, or hacking computers so that the security systems target the enemies... or sneaking up from behind them and kicking them off the edge. Well, you know, everything BUT a frontal approach :P

Although I did have fun with Unreal Tournament 2003 for a while. I think, about 2 hours or so.

Give me something to shoot, the bigger the better.... :D
  7. Currently I'm playing Deus Ex under wine. Great game; I love it because you can take a lot of different approaches. I'm doing it the "stealth" way. You're not forced to shoot your way out, and probably die, y'know? :)

  8. I played the Penumbra demo yesterday night.... pretty nice, except for not anti-aliasing (I believe). Looked good once I "forced" anti-aliasing.

Not a bad game at all... has a good atmosphere. Although I'm afraid that I'll be forced to shoot zombies and monsters and then because I s*ck at action, give up on the game... :-x
