  2. Hello friends... I am using Mandrake 10.1 Official. Can i have two "KMenu"s on my destop. I was looking around the Menudrake and changed the Meny Style to KDE default. The menu changed. I found lot of new package listed that were not listed on the default mandrake menu. Although default mandrake menu ("All Applcaation") claim that it listed almost all packages. But i found the default KMenu has more packages. Also I could have swithed to the KDE default but the problem is that I did not get 'Configuration" items. (Like MCC, Install Package etc.) So, can I both menu at my desktop

  4. Hello friends, It was woking yesterday, but suddenly, i am not able to access my cdrom. I noticed the problem when installing somethong with urpmi. It gives me error messages saying that it can't access cdrom (similar). I think Mandrake is not automounting my cdrom (it is cd writer actualy). Here is the content of the /etc/fstab file : /dev/hdb5 / ext3 defaults 1 1 /dev/hdb7 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850 0 0 /dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0 /dev/hdb1 /mnt/win_c2 vfat umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0 /dev/hda5 /mnt/win_d ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0 /dev/hda6 /mnt/win_e ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0 /dev/hda7 /mnt/win_f ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hdb6 swap swap defaults 0 0 The /etc/fstab is not showing any entry related to cdrom. So i guess this is the problem. But i don't know how to fix it. need help [moved from Software by spinynorman]

  6. Hello firends, How can I upgrade my Mandrake 10.1 Official from KDE 3.2 to KDE 3.4 I want to install all the KDE packages (the one which are not currentlt intalled). (but also tell me how to just upgrade the currently intalled KDE 3.2 packages to KDE 3.4) And, if I go fo full upgrade (intalling all packages of KDE 3.4), then will it display in Menu or I have to set it.
  7. Thank you friends.. Everything is working fine now!!
  8. Hey, Thanks for the reply... everything went fine, after adding above code, it start showing the entries in the "Install Software". But, there is just problem, It didnot show my CDROMs entries. It shows just disk 1, not 2 and 3. It happened before also, when I added the repository to urpmi (when i donwloaded it from net), the Disk 3 did not show up int he list. What could be the reason.
  9. Hello Firends, I am running Mandrake 10.1 Official. Recently I added the repository with the help of http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/. Everything was working fine and smooth. But then, I ran the Mandrake intaller again, foolish of me. Actually i was recieving lot of error related to develeopment package when i try to install something (./configure). As I did not select the "Development" option during initial intallation, therefore I thought that I can re-install (upgrade, but not actually, since i was running same installer). But when I ran "Install Softwre" tool , it did not show the reprository that I added before. The list and data (headers or whatever) is in my system, so how can I just re-configure the urpmi to take the setting from there. So i didn't have to re-download the data from internet again. I have sort of limited downloading limit of the interent. Thats why it should helpful to me if I can just re-configure. thanks
  10. :D You are right... but I have already done it 3 times. So, what u suggest (and now asume that I don't want to install it 100 times). Should I login as root (always) or I should stick to the normal user. And I need to clear one thing, If I install something with root (doing su in the shell) then will I able to access it in normal mode, or there may be some comlications. I decided to get root access because of two thing - 1. I have to give password many times. 2. "urmpi" does not work in nrmal user... when i issue urpmi command in the shell, it says command does not exists.. I thought my system don't have it, so I waisted an hour finding urpmi package on net, i didn't find anything. i finally figure out that it will execute in su.
  11. Thanks for answering. Well, I have already done it. I can login as root. But the problem is, I have spent lot of time "decorating" my desktop, customizing menu and all that. so, i need to set privilages of my existing account as root And I don't have any secuirity issue. I am the onlu user of the computer.
  12. Hi I need to know that what is the differnece between "Install software" & "Browse Installed Software" under System > Configuration > Packaging in Mandrake 10.1 Well, one have "Install" button disable. Is this the only differnce? And, do both list the installed software? Do "Install Software" lists only software that are not installed? And, why it did not hightlight, which software are insalled and which are not. Thanks
  13. Hi, Its been three days that I have intalled Mandrake 10.1. So, I am a newbie to linux and learning it. I have a problem relating root privilages. I want root privilage to my account. I have read lot that you should "never" login to root. You can damage it etc. But as I am learning linux and I don't realy bother to install to 100 times (if i damage it) So, can anyone please tell me how to give root privilages to a user on Mandrake 10.1 I am tired to typng the root password again and again, more that 20 times withing a hour. So please help me. I have tried going "Configure you Computer" > "System" > "User and Groups and changed the permission from there as "root" (i mean changing the group to "root") but it doesnot work. Also, I am able to assign any group from my account (doesn't it require any root permisions), but that is another story that it did show changed group but it does not work. So, anyone know how to do it. [moved from Software by spinynorman - welcome aboard :)]
