  1. Yea, got all my work done for the day so now I'm just playing around with my Solaris box and Checking the forums.
  2. Ouch, you sound like you hate RH! :D well, lets just say I have an affinity for another distro. (mandrake? ;-) ) I know, I was bored I thought I would try and start a distro war again! j/k
  3. I remember looking at it about a year or two ago, but I never didn't anything will it. Lately I've seen a Gentoo & Debian box running the kernel allowing anyone to login as root and see how far you can get. I like the idea and as much as I can learn about security the better! I think the NSA is full of spys. I must say I would like to work for them though.
  4. Ouch, you sound like you hate RH! :D
  5. http://www.nsa.gov/selinux/index.html Has anyone used this Kernel and Mods before? I'm thinking of throghing it on my RH(vmware) test box to play with. Any thoughts?
  6. I figure when I get some spare time I will give it a go.
  7. Don't know if a lot of people have heard or used this before, but I thought I would post some good reading material, the first link on the third pages tells how you can get the .rpm's and .deb's. http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/tut...torials/4712/1/ http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reports/4719/1/ In theory, very interesting. When I get a chance I will have to give it a run. Anyone out there using UML?
  8. For all of those out there that ssh into there box and don't like to keep typing your password in, do the following. http://www.cs.umd.edu/~arun/misc/ssh.html This is helpful for people like me who want to play on there home box from WORK!
  9. I realized that after I posted. Thanks for the link.
  10. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6811 This will show you how to set it up, so I figured it was a Tip, maybe a Trick?
  11. How about SpamAssassin? http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/spamassassin....org/index.html
  12. Yep, I was wondering if it was gcc 3.3, becuase in the log, there is a reference to it.
  13. There's alway's so much talk about different package systems for linux and differnet distro's I thought I would post this link explaining some of the different aspects of .rpm .deb .tgz and others. http://www.kitenet.net/~joey/pkg-comp/ Come on, it's fun reading!
  14. Ok, I'm trying to get this going on a test machine at work. When I boot up the new kernel which I got from: http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/ I get the following XFree error: [justin@dozer log]$ more XFree86.setup.log XFree86 Version 4.3.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.3.0-2) Release Date: 27 February 2003 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6 Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.20-3bigmem i686 [ELF] Build Date: 27 February 2003 Build Host: porky.devel.redhat.com Before reporting problems, check http://www.XFree86.Org/ to make sure that you have the latest version. Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org. Now I'm a little confused because I don't have a AGP card why that is coming up. I guess it was built into the kernel.rpm and because I don't have the device it is confused?? Is it possible that it is because I'm running: [justin@dozer log]$ rpm -q gcc gcc-3.2.2-5
  15. If anyone is using RH, you can download an rpm from here, I haven't had a chance to test it yet. http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/
  16. Yea, that was one problem I saw with RH 8, it was DOG slow. 9 doesn't seem all that slow to me.

    Pager bar

    Were they using Kpager? http://perso.wanadoo.es/antlarr/kpager.html
  18. Well if a new CD doesn't do it, list out what kind of hardware your using. Anytime you have a problem like that, it's easier for all of us to narrow down problems by the kind of hardware being used.
  19. What kind of hardware do you have? Have you used the pc for Linux before? http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/hardware.php3 For HCL.
  20. I use ReiserFS & LVM on my RH box.
  21. I'm impressed! I second those comments. :P
  22. I like RH, sorry can't help you out. I think people tend not to like it from a multimedia standpoint. Like the fact that mp3, xine, mplayer. RH doesn't install stuff like that. I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but some of that software would be considered illegal in America and that is why they don't include it. Then there are people who just don't like RPM distro's. There's also the feeling that they are to big and there like MS of the Linux world. I don't agree with that one, so what if they have got the name LINUX out to the massess and Corporations are jumping off the WInwagon and moving over to Linux and like it or not, RH has played a big role in that.
  23. DId you try under the Gnome Control Center, Desktop Preference, CD & DVD preferences? I don't know with Mandrakes supermount if that has been taken out so you will have to look in yours. If it is there, there should be an option for Mount CD when insterted.
