Yeah, you can install vmware from vmware.com pretty easy on fedora. rpm -ivh vmware* Just a warning, you will need a patch from http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/ http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/vmware-any-any-update98.tar.gz and NO, fedora didn't crip it so you have to use Petr Vandrovec patch. Petr always creates these patches when the "kernel" breaks something, some were around 2.6.15-git4 broke it. Yes, even Gentoo/arch/ubuntu/<insert distro here> needs this patch if it is a newer kernel :P

Oh, I forgot to comment on vmware :) While I like vmware-server (free) still not open free :) But if Fedora included the ability to install vmware like arch/gentoo and maybe some others, then there would be no need for rh to work on xen and openvz. http://www.redhat.com/virtualization/

Just to add, I have old mp3's to, but the majority of my stuff has been ripped to ogg now. Like I said, all that stuff is easy to get, the point of Fedora is to have a truly FREE OS and I think that is one of the greatest parts, besides its an awesome distro but the FREE part is cool B) In other news, there are portable ogg players now that you can plug into your car, take for a walk or whatever else you want to do :) Yes, I have an ipod cause I bought it before those players were out.

With your arch things are easier? Running closed source progams is real hot, you should be proud of how cool it is. Many people in the Linux community, really have no CLUE what OSS means and who has been fighting to make it all possible and to give you the crap you so love to run while telling m$ and apple to stick it. You really have NO idea who is doing the work and why the work is being done. Seriously, get over it, fedora/rh as long as we know it will NEVER release stuff like this because of what it stands for. What kind of card do you have? Is it supported in other xorg 7.0 distro's that you have tried? I would assume it works, but I dunno, I have one ati and thats my laptop and it works. But you give me the model number I will see if others are using it. The latest debian is just as easy to install as anything else imo. So that shouldn't scare you off from giving it a try.

That review actually falls under "extremly clueless" person. They were wrong on so many degree's it was really a wasted news day. 60% resources, with no claim to why or stats? If you think I would run a distro on at least 5 box's that was 60% worst than anything else, I would be considered insane :) I actually think (feel) fedora is extremly fast compared to the majority of distro's out there. First, Fedora Core 5 will be out in 4 days (20th) With a lot of new goodies that wont be in others :) 1.) Yes, several repo's to add to get all that, I'm running rawhide right now (fc5) and using vlc/mplayer/xine/rhythmbox/banshee all with all the video codecs and mp3/aac stuff 2.) Personally, I use freshrpms/dag/dries and grab ati/nvidia src.rpms from livna. You can also get gui frontends to yum like yumex 3.) Fedora all the way (i sort of hate suse so I might be a little bias) ;) 4.) Fedora kicks a lot of ass, and always comes out with bleeding edge software in each release and keeps it stable. I'm actually running rawhide on a backup server, yeah i know that is a little scary and don't recommend it :) Just give Fedora/Suse a try and see what you think. I help a lot of people here with Fedora and a few others that hang around here, so if you can't get help on fedoraforums or mailing list, ask here and I'll help you.

banshee(mono app) It will show the album cover if it finds one too. I can't decide which one I like best (between rhythmbox/banshee) I don't really like the way banshee libary's the music, but it has some other cool features that are nice. Oh, the way that is displayed, that is me moving my mouse over the music note next to the date on the panel.

Your welcome Keep in mind, something I do with software outside of the "distro" is to have an apps dir in my home. that way if i want the distros gtkpod i have it and i can build my own with special needs something else mods to it, like what your doing. That way I also don't take the chance of messing up other programs. Like when I started to help you with gtkpod, i put it in ./configure --prefix=$HOME/apps This will create all the bin/sbin/blah/rah/rah stuff in my apps dir, installed by me (not root) and ran controlled by me. That way you could do the same with say that mpeg4ip in your apps. I haven't taken a look at the compile options for it, but you would do the same for it cd mpeg4ip /configure --prefix=$HOME/apps plus any options you might see from ./configure --help that you want to add in. then build your gtkpod in apps also.
