  1. Forgot to say that I'm using KDE. Just realized that this was moved to Cooker. I'm an early seeder and have the "non Cooker", released version.
  2. Prior to 2007.1, Ctrl-Tab would switch between virtual desktops. That is not happening after the upgrade from 2007.0. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing? [moved from Software - arctic]
  3. I do only have the applications on the visible window show in the taskbar. As a rule, I do have plenty of taskbar space. (Especially without that large menu button. ;) ) I do have a taskbar hiding type problem, though. I have had this problem since the advent of 2007.0. It worked fine prior thereto. Even though I have the taskbar settings set to have the taskbar hide automatically when the cursor moves off of it, in fact it will only disappear when I move the cursor off the screen, either to the left, right or top. It does reappear correctly when I move the cursor off the screen to the bottom. This is a nuisance, and because of it, I no longer use the auto hide feature. I hope they fix this sometime.
  4. Don't think I have enough open on one desktop to warrant the side taskbar. I generally use 6 double-wide (dual screen) virtual desktops, each dedicated to specific things, (gkrellm, xmms, gaim, Opera on 1, System monitoring stuff and webcams on 2, development environment on 3, ftp and file management on 4, spreadsheets on 5, misc (like backup software & azureus) on 6) so I don't usually have lots of tabs open on the same screen. All these items come up by themselves when I bring up the system. Just getting the Mandriva star back for the menu gives me plenty of room. All is now well.
  5. My point was that I've never seen it, and don't know how to get it. I looked at all the applets that could be added to the system tray and didn't see anything related. What name does it go by, so that I could urpmi it, or otherwise find it?
  6. I've still never seen it. Am using KDE. I've checked all the menu's on the system, and I don't seem to have it. Should I urpmi mdkonline, or does it go by a different name?
  7. I wasn't complaining about the looks, just the amount of real estate it occupied on a busy task bar. I wish that I could prevent some items from appearing in the task bar at all, except perhaps if they are minimized. For example, I always have gaim up. It would suffice for it to appear only in the system tray. The same for xmms, etc. That would save even more space on the task bar for items that really need to be there.
  8. Ha, nothing like the obvious. Sounds like the best bet.
  9. On page: http://www.mondorescue.org/ I found the following, which may work Up to 2.2.1, mondoarchive was using mkisofs and cdrecord as tools to manage ISO images. These tools are not provided anymore on Mandriva 2007.1 and have been replaced by tools from cdrkit. You may want to turn around the problem by doing: ln -sf /usr/bin/genisoimage /usr/local/bin/mkisofs ln -sf /usr/bin/wodim /usr/local/bin/cdrecord Too late for me to kick off a backup now, but I'll try this tomorrow.
  10. What update feature alerts you when there are packages you can download? I've heard of some applet that is supposed to indicate when there are updates to be applied, but have never seen it.
  11. Ha. As a matter of fact I was trying ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu (since it is closer to me), but went back to ftp://mirrors.usc.edu that I had been using before. But, I was talking about the generated syntax. It was different from the syntax I have previously received from EasyUrpmi. Anyway, I just took the old syntax and replaced the 0's with 1's and left it at usc and all went well. Except, now I can't get my mondo backup to run. Sigh.... (Different thread).
  12. Went through each service shown in MCC, but can't find anything that should be kicking off beagled and beagled-helper. It is a nuisance to have to kill them each time I bring up the system.
  13. After the upgrade from 2007.0 to 2007.1 I configures my urpmi sources and did an update. That caused the update of mondo to version 2.21.1. It no longer works. It seems to be related to update-alternatives that it doesn't seem to know anything about. It complains that it can't find cdrecord (now wodim) or mkisofs (now genisoimage). Do I have to set up my own symlinks in /usr/bin for each file that it wants but cannot find? Always scared until I have a secure backup.
  14. jboy: http://www.mandrivauser.de/smarturpmi/ gave me bad syntax. I ended up using the same sources I had before, just changing 2007.0 to 2007.1 and that caused the update of 71 packages.
  15. Ah, good. I also used the star. Did it at home at lunchtime -- worked fine.
  16. There seems to be a replacement for kat called beagle (going to the dogs? ) which gets installed automatically on 2007.1. I heard my disk drive churning and that is what it was, so I disabled it. However, I notice that items continue to run after start up like beagled, and beagled helper. How do I prevent these from running? I didn't see them in system services.
  17. I did an update from the cd. I haven't found online sources yet for 2007.1. It took about an hour and 15 minutes. Surprised it took so long. As soon as I find online sources I'll do another update. Don't see much different yet on 2007.1 except for beagle (which I already removed) which is a kat replacement, and this "too wide" menu button on the task bar. Other than that, it looks identical to 2007.0.
  18. Upgraded 2007.0 to 2007.1. On the new release the start button for the menu on the taskbar consists of the word "Mandriva" and is about three times wider than the button that used to be there. This unnecessarily uses up valuable taskbar real estate. Is there any way to change this button to something smaller? So far, that is the only change I notice, except for the kat replacement, beagle, which I have already removed. I notice that items continue to run after start up like beagled, and beagled helper. How do I prevent these from running? Edit: Found instructions for removing the large menu button here: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Releases/Mandr...Mandriva_Online [moved from Software - arctic]
  19. opvask: Liked your forest theme. Wish I could find some like that "double wide" for a dual screen setup. (Mystified wouldn't like a forest theme unless there were vampyres in the branches. :P )
  20. I have 2007.0 on my system. Also, when I looked earlier at easyurpmi, the sources for 2007.1 were not yet there. But, I had already downloaded the dvd anyway as an early seeder, and was just considering doing an upgrade from there. Current kernel on my system is is 2.6.17.11 (with source).
  21. I downloaded the Powerpack edition of 2007.1 last night. Anybody yet have any experience regarding doing an upgrade vs. a fresh isntall? It is a major pain to have to reinstall all kinds of stuff, get dual monitors working again, add all the scripts I have back into the menu. get backup working, etc, etc, etc. I was hoping I could just do a fresh install once a year, and perhaps on the mid-year cycle just do an upgrade. (After all, it is still the same kernel!) Any thoughts?
  22. Thanks much for the info and link. Instead of downgrading libx11-6 there is now an Opera hotfix. I'll download from their site later when I get home. Here is a link to the discussion about this issue on the Opera forum: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2007/04/06/hotfix That link contains a link to the Opera hotfix. Thanks again!
  23. Did the usual system update last night on Mandriva 2007. This morning, after bringing up the system again, Opera won't load. First time this has ever happened with any Mandriva release. Any ideas?
