  1. Ok, here's what I tried:

I tried to change the server name for Yahoo and then shut down Gaim and restarted it. I got the same error that I was getting before on my Yahoo account, so I checked the server for that one and I found that it had reset itself back to the default.

Now what? I'm gonna look around at some other IM clients and see what else is there.

  2. guess no one knows or has had this same problem? Strange. Are there any other IM clients out there that will support the big 3? (AOL, MSN, Yahoo) I tried Kopete, but I couldn't get it to compile on my system. It gave me a huge list of conflictions and dependencies and I came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the trouble.

  3. I noticed that as well, and I thought it was an odd resolution. I then realized that it does say "Sony Vaio" in that config file so I figured it was a laptop. My Dell laptop runs at that same resolution but I've never heard of running a regular monitor at that res. Maybe I'm wrong.

bvc is right, though; you don't have that resolution in your config file and it probably should be there if you're trying to run it at 1400x1050.

  4. I am having an issue connecting to Yahoo Instant messenger through Gaim. I just updated to version 0.62 (texstar) but still no luck. All it says is something about not being able to read? Whatever that means. I thought it was a Yahoo problem, but I can connect on my laptop through both Trillian and Yahoo Instant Messenger so I'm stuck thinking that this is an issue with Gaim (at least, my installation of Gaim).

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there an easy solution?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Just for a laugh, you might want to check your resolution in MCC. I doubt it was changed, but you never know.

If all else fails, you can always step back a driver or two from Nvidia and see if that fixes your problem. I am running the newest drivers with no problems at all, but your milage may vary. I know texstar has rpms of the 4191 drivers if you can't find them anywhere else.

  6. What exactly do you mean by "zoomed"? I have had a similar problem (I think) with my laptop in 9.0, but I believe that was caused by the screen not being fully supported.

Does this problem happen all the time? Just when exiting from a particular program? Does it correct itself when you restart X? Has your resolution changed?

Just a few questions. Just trying to get some more info so we can help you out.

  7. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I have unpartitioned space on my master drive (the 80 GB one). I recently (like a day before I installed 9.1, maybe even same day) deleted a 10 gig partition and haven't recreated it, or put anything new in its place. I wanted to wait and see what I actually needed before I allocated the space in Windows and realized I wanted it in Linux, or vice versa. I don't reboot all that often, and it seems to only appear at boot; so I think I'll let it be for now.

  8. I think this is a hardware problem

I get this error that says

    ldm_validate_partition_table ( ): Disk Read Failed

When I am booting up and if I don't enter in any login info right away. The first time I see it is during the startup when it says Finding Module Dependencies, and then again when it starts up CUPS

When I get the message at first, my Zip drive (USB 250) acts like it's being accessed. Nothing happens before I get it the second time (or third).

This is really bothering me. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything esle other than it's annoying. If someone has a clue where to start, I would be greatly appreciative.

    Info on my system:

  9. I saw that and there were some things mentioned in your faq that were not brought up in the post Mystified linked to. It actually helps me out a lot looking at it from here, now let's see if I can transfer that knowledge to practice when I get home from work...2 1/2 hours to go.

  10. Ok, maybe this topic shouldn't be here. If that's the case, please move it mods.

Is there a way to change the hostname for your box in 9.1? My hostname looks like it's the MAC address of my NIC, but I don't want it to be that. I have tried going to MCC -> Network -> Configure internet access (or something close to that) and re-run the networking wizard. I specified a different hostname (localhost just to see if I could change it) but it doesn't change. Is there another place I need to go to get that hostname changed?

  11. Well, I am in the process of installing 9.1 on my desktop right now. I'm a little afraid that the keyboard isn't going to work, though. I couldn't change the names of some of the mount points on my windows disk. No big deal. I know it's being recognized simply because the mouse is plugged into it and it (the mouse) is working just fine. I'll know here in a minute because I'll have to enter the root password and create my user (doing a full install, not upgrade). I guess if it doesn't work, I'll head out to WalMart or Fred Meyer and buy a cheap ps/2 keyboard. I tried a ps/2 - usb converter, but that didn't work. I'll post my findings on my particualr machine when I get it all installed.
