  2. Just did that and it was very easy - thx!
  3. I was wondering the same thing - dealing with .rar files, so I grabbed 7-zip for Windows and installed it with Xoffice and it has a decent gui and is easy to work with all types of archives.
  4. Thanks for the help, this is the one I went with and is thusfar excellent. Krusader
  5. Under XP I use AB Commander It is a nice duel pane explorer replacment, are there any good versions of this type of app for Linux?
  6. I did a search but didn't see any posts that address this dirrectly. I have a font package of 2000 True Type Fonts and want to install them. Where do I put them? On a few websites I visit it looks like they use some MS True Type Fonts and FF replaces then with Sans I believe it is - looks horrible! I am assuming that if I put hese fonts in the system font dir. then FF will pick up on them when I visit these sites? Thx :D
  7. Just installed LE 2005 - all 6 cd's. Runs smoothly, nice apps package and it even installed my Nvidia drivers for me plus the updated kernel for future installs. So far it's great, but hey Im a nub so who knows.
  8. I just got LE 2005. Wipped my drive installed it and on CD 4 it has Nvidia drivers - which it installed for me as well as the kernel source for future installs. Guess this one got solved for me the easy way = }
  9. Used to doing Msconfig/services.msc in XP, how do I do it in Linux? [moved from Everything Linux by spinynorman]

  11. I have not tried Skype on Linux yet, but have used it on XP for the last year to talk to my bro overseas. We get better quality on it then the phone. I assume the same would hold true for Linux.
  12. That is what I hought as well daniewicz so I did the MCC and installed every update avialable - roughly 800MB worth, no change though. I am in the process of d/l LE 2005 and will be installing it in the next day or so, hopefullly it will work then! If not I will pester you guys some more - lucky you heh? lol Thx for the help, I appreciate it.
  13. Really sorry to be such a pain the the backside about this. I did as you said above, it didn't give me a list but told me to insert CD3. Which I did, and it installed whetever it needed to then told me it was done. Now when I go into the command line and type "urpmi kernel-source" it says that "Everything is Installed" So, I exit x, run the nvidia drivers package and it gets a little farther then before but then comes to this error: ( I will paraphraze) Unable to load the kernel module nvidia.o This is most likely because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source files ... Does any of that makes sense to you gurus?
  14. Here is what I did - remember I am a nub and still learning all this jazz! [wolf@localhost wolf]$ su Password: [root@localhost wolf]# uname -r 2.6.8.1-12mdk [root@localhost wolf]# urpmi kernel -2.6.8.1-12mdk Unknown option: 2 Unknown option: . Unknown option: 6 Unknown option: . Unknown option: 8 Unknown option: . Unknown option: 1 Unknown option: 1 Everything already installed I assume I messed up somewhere in there.
  15. Having a touch of trouble with this. Here is what happens: 1. Accept licence agreement. 2. Tells me "No precompiled kernal interface was found to match your kernal: would you like the installer to download one from ftp:''download/nvidia.com?" 3. I say "yes" 4. Tells me that no precompiled kernel was found on the nvidia site and tells me that the installer will need to compile a kernel. 5. The only option is to then choose "OK" 6. Tells me it is unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel. 7. Only option then is to say "OK" 8. ERROR: Installation has failed. I am sure there is an easy fix for this but have no idea what it may be! Any ideas?
  16. smb://<ip-of-winbox-u-wish-to-connect> then enter That did the trick my friend - thank you kindly for the help = } That aside how do I know if I have "LinNeighborhood" installed? If I don't how do I install it? Thx again!
  17. In M$ I am used to "My Network Places" I cant seem to find anything in Mandriva 10.1 that will allow me to browse my local network. Is there such a thing? Thx!
  18. How does a guy create a shortcut to a recently installed app? In M$ I am used to right clicking on the .exe and then clicking send to/ Desktop create shortcut. So far I see no such option. Very proud of myself, I just succesfully installed FF 1.0.3 it is located in home/wolf/Installed Apps/Firefox Inside there is a file called "Firefox" that is a "Shell Script" when I double click it it opens up FF. Can I make a shortcut to it on the desktop and if so how! Thx. :D
  19. Hello all. I have downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run Now it comes to the install process. I have read the FAQ on this but what I see on my screen differs from what was written over a year ago. That said is someone willing to walk me through how to install this driver step by step? Once I do it once I will never have to ask again! I have the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run in my /home/wolf dir. What I CAN do so far is open up a terminal, type init 3 which exits out of the X gui. From there I have no idea what to do. I assume I need to cd into the dir /home/wolf and then somehow run the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run I dont even know how to do the cd command properly, bah! Can someone walk me through step by step in doing this? I know it is time consuming for you to type it all out but it will be GREATLY appreciated. Thx! :D [moved from Software by spinynorman]
