  1. I don't know what this OpenJDK is, but were I you, I'd use either Sun JDK 1.6 or "IcedTea" 1.7.

    Yves.

In Nov 2006 Sun opensourced the parts of Java which was in its property that's OpenJDK. After this the Java community started to rewrite the missing parts. A year ago Sun and RedHat created the IcedTea project which was aimed to create a GPLv2 only OpenJDK which passes the TCK test created by Sun.

RedHat announced on the last RedHat summit conference that it happened. So from now on Java = OpenJDK.

Meanwhile work hasn't stopped. IcedTea7 is on the way which will be the same as OpenJDK7 on the source level.

This means to me that OpenJDK = stable version and IcedTea = development version.

  2. Mandriva holds install parties whenever a new release is out. Although burning CDs have a cost companies usually provide promotion stuff for free.

I don't know who did you ask to rpovide those CDs for you but AFAIK Mandriva does give install party CDs for free as well as stickers.

Anyway I'm not a Mandriva official. None of us are here. You better ask Adam.

  3. how about this one http://incrediblehulk.marvel.com/

    works fine in firefox,

But in opera, i just get a grey box

And there's this one http://www.expelledthemovie.com/playground.php ... actually this one works

    and there's http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/wa...mall/final.html

    Thanks Nic

The first one worked for me. I watched the trailer. No issues.

On the second page I clicked on Super trailer right on that page. The video seemingly started to play. I could see a "The following preview is..." screen to appear but then a white block appeared and the trailer didn't play. However when I clicked on "Watch more Expelled trailers" I could watch all the trailers.

These two are flash videos so you should check your installation of the Flash plugin.

Btw I have Opera 9.51 from the Mandriva rpm package which I downloaded from opera.com.

The last link didn't work for me either like almost all of the trailers on apple.com. I can't watch them with Firefox either. It's likely a codec issue for me.

  4. The Wine team is proud to announce that Wine 1.0 is now available. This is the first stable release of Wine after 15 years of development and beta testing. Many thanks to everybody who helped us along that long road!

While compatibility is not perfect yet, thousands of applications have been reported to work very well. Check http://appdb.winehq.org to see the details for your favorite applications.

The source is available now. Binary packages are in the process of being built, and will appear soon at their respective download locations.

  5. Firefox also has this. You start typing, and the quick search opens at the bottom of the page. You can enable or disable it. I think it's disabled by default, but it's as simple as going into Options/Preferences/Advanced/General and then enabling it.

    Or just pres Ctrl+f.

From other posts I read the speed of Opera depends on which widget set it is using. Qt3 or Qt4. If it's true what people say then the Qt4 version is faster and is using less resources.

When I tried Opera I was just curious. In earlier versions it had problems with playing Flash and videos. In this version it's all working. At least for now.

The one thing I like with Opera is that when Flash player crashes the browser doesn't crash with it unlike with my Firefox. It's very annoying.
