  1. Sorry I'm using PCLinuxOS which is a Mandriva spin-off and I assumed the menu is the same. Anyway if you can't find the KDE Control Center in the menu then start Konsole or any other terminal and type

    kcontrol

In the KDE cc look in the System section and start KDM theme manager.

P.S. I'm using KDE 3.5.2 and I hope there is a KDM theme manager in 3.4 too but nothing is certain. If not there still should be a utility in kcontrol which helps to setup KDM.

  2. Have you tried installing one of the live CDs to the HD? Only Mandrake doesn't boot from the CD or nothinng boots from the CD? If the first it's rather a bad burn than a bad HD especially if other CDs can boot on it.

Both 9.0 and 10.1 are old and unsupported. You should try a newer release.

  3. I copy Gael's message from the ulteo.org forum just make it clearer may 15th is the earliest date.

Not before the 15th May. When I started Mandrake, it took me 6 months to have a first release available, and it was way less complicated than Ulteo.

For Ulteo, I just want to release a beta as a proof of concept (with just basic services running), and I'm full time on it, but hey... I have to learn Debian in depth wink

    Any help is welcome!

    Gaël.

  4. No I still have that directory but I rarely use it since I changed to PCLOS though I still frequently visit Mandriva forums such as this.

The tips there are for my knowledge (or the lack of it) so others may not find useful what's in there e.g. CLI package management in Mandriva. Besides it's not English only.

There's a tips & tricks forum around here too not to mention the Mandriva users FAQ and wiki.

  5. There is free Mandriva club membership. Basically you can write to the official forum with it and a few other things. It just requires registration (free) nothing else. You can get support there too.

For adding ftp mirrors visit Easy-Urpmi (look at the top of this page) and follow instructions.

  6. I mean, look at Windows, MS would never consider a move such as this - and the bugs just keep piling up!

That's just not true. Developing and than stopping development and starting bugfixing IS the MS development cycle. Just think about how old is XP. What's new in it since it has been released?

  7. I've not seen the signature errors for ages, and I've done a few clean installs recently too and not seen them. I might be tempted to try another mirror if you keep getting signature problems with the mirror you have selected now.

Ages ago, quite a lot of packages had the signature problem, but I think they got around to fixing it, just maybe some mirrors are out of sync or something

You should read the club forums. With 2006 this is a permanent problem. I myself met with it while I used Mandriva. And urpmi didn't install those packages unless I told it to do so.

  8. No these are badly signed packages. Every package has a digital signature to verify that it has come from the right place. Mandriva has a lot of issues with these signatures. The only solution I know of is to turn off this signature checking by adding the --no-verify-rpm option to urpmi (pls check the urpmi man page before using it).

  9. Put it in your CD drive and reboot the system should start from CD. If not check your BIOS and set your boot preferences (which device your computer should boot).

If you surf under Linux is generally safer then using the default Windows setup with IE. I don't know if it has any other security features though.

  11. things that go on your desktop...like superkaramba and gdesklets.

I'm not a native English speaker but I learned that widget = window object. So when I write widget I mean buttons, checkboxes, combo boxes etc.

I thought the guy wanted to write a program.
