This applies to ff 2.0.0.14 in 2007. FF has imported once, but refuses to repeat the process. I certainly can't find any way of importing except, well...., import. B) Is this a known problem and, if so, does anyone know of a work-around? Thanks.

I've just installed Audacity into 2007 but it won't start (or, at least, it asks for the language in the box 'Audacity First Run', but then dies). I assume that there's a log somewhere, containing a bit more information on this behaviour; could someone tell me where this is? Thanks.

Having become addicted ;) to KDiskFree I'm slightly disappointed at not finding it in 2008. Can't find it using MCC -> Manage Software, either :unsure: . Is this simply a mirror problem, or has it really been removed?

During a mirror-update using easyurpmi, the process crashed while updating plf-nonfree urpmi.addmedia --update plf-free ftp://mandriva.cointech.net/pub/plf/mandriva/free/2006.0/i586 with synthesis.hdlist.cz Now I am informrd "urpmi database locked". I'm reluctant to simply delete the database; could someone tell me how else I am likely to solve the problem? Thanks.

You've done it again, Jim; many thanks for the decisive tip which solves the final problem. After looking briefly into your initial suggestions I decided to go for the final one - selecting a different editor. Now gedit is the default; it prints correctly and has the advantage of providing more facilities than kwrite. Great advice. Once again, many thanks. :D

Many thanks, Jim, that was exactly it. :thumbs: The printer now operates almost correctly, at least I'm pretty sure that the fact that kwrite won't print is not the driver's fault. Kword and Open-office can print, but not kwrite; an entry appears in KJobViewer for a few seconds, then disappears, followed by ... nothing. Perhaps CUPS needs to be set up, or kwrite (can't find any relevant point in the latter's configuration-page). Unfortunately (this is my wife's machine) I can't be sure that kwite has ever been able to print, but I assume that it used to , otherwise I'd have got some complaints ;) . Very strange; any tips? Am still having problems with this bl...y DX7400 driver. Can't find any printer bearing any resemblance to it in the entire list. It seems that a .ppd file is necessary, which needs to be generated by a 'pipslite-install' program/script. According to 'readmelite-cups', this 'pipslite-install' : "After installation, is located at the following path: /usr/bin/pipslite-install". Well, that may be the normal case, but not on my box, mate . So, back to square one; this time I tried to install the package manually, with the following result: [root@192 EpsonDX7400]# rpm -i pipslite-cups-1.0.*-*.i386.rpm file /usr/bin/ekpstm from install of pipslite-cups-1.0.3-1 conflicts with file from package pips-gtk2-3.0-1 file /usr/lib/cups/backend/ekplp from install of pipslite-cups-1.0.3-1 conflicts with file from package pips-cups-3.0-1 This is becoming a nightmare. On my wife's laptop, running XP, the printer was up and running about 6 min. 40 sec. after inserting the setup-cd. I probably should have checked to see which level of support was offered (in Mandy) before buying the printer; silly me. :wacko: :wacko: Anyway, mini-rant over; still need help, possibly with removing the above conflicts. Many thanks, Jim, I did as you suggested and found the driver for the DX7400; this (pipslite-cups-1.0.3-1.i386.rpm) I also downloaded and installed. No complaints fron the system, either. ;) So far, so good. Now, however, when I try to 'add another printer' with MCC -> Hardware -> Set up printers... , MCC detects that the printer is attached but refuses to set it up, i.e. gives me 'raw printer' and the DX7400 is not in the printer-list :unsure: . Could you possibly help me further? Thanks.

I'm trying to install an Epson Stylus 7400 on an mva2006 box, but it's not in the printer-database. Epson has a linux-driver (epson31411eu.zip), which I've downloaded, but I don't know how to point Printerdrake at it. Could someone help me out, please?

Well, the culprit seems to be firefox (v1.5.0.7). I've got 7 tabs open but all sites have been completely loaded (if that's the right expression, i.e. everything seems to be static). Nevertheless, 'top' is telling me that firefox is consuming beween 75 and 85% of cpu-time, even when (as now) the LAN is down. About 10 seconds in every 45, firefox-load decreases to between 15-25%, then shoots back up to 75-85%. Apart from firefox I've got system-monitor (1-2%), a konsole (for 'top', 1-2%) and kwrite (for this report, <1%) open. Seems mighty strange to me, surely this can't be normal; any ideas about what's going on?

I've just spent the last 10 minutes watching the CPU-history graph (Gnome System-monitor), on my Tosh Sat Pro 4600 box running mva 2006. Interestingly :unsure: , the CPU load is around 90% for about 45 seconds every minute. Only firefox, kwrite and system-monitor are running, the LAN is down (cable even removed) and, according to my understanding of computers/OS's, the machine should be just idling along at about 5-10%. If this were Windoze I'd be panicking and reaching for the AV, but that, according to this post https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...p;hl=anti-virus, is unnecessary in a linux setup. Am I becoming paranoid, or somthing? How likely is it that I've got some 'uninvited friend' ;) running about in the box? If anyone could provide to this simple soul an explanation of what's going on (which might also reduce my state of concern), that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just a couple more points, therefore: WRT disabling SSID, I've just read a wiki @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID, which tends to disagree with this. Being a beginner in this field, I'm somewhat confused; could one of you give me some more details, please? Also: is mac-filtering achieved in the wireless-adapter and, if so, is it a standard feature of all/most devices or do only certain ones have the facility?

Thanks, scarecrow, that was the answer. :D I have a distro of mva2008, so I booted from that, went into recovery-mode and mounted the required USB-partition manually. The rest was dead easy. Great software as well as great advice. Once again, many thanks. :thumbs:

I'd like to copy the entire contents of a partition (containing mva2006) onto a partition of separate physical disk. However, when I try to attach this target disk to my laptop via USB, the system refuses to recognise it. Since another (ext3-formatted) disk with a single partion can successfully be mounted, I'm assuming that the problem lies with the fact that the target (USB) disk contains multiple partitions. :unsure: If this is the problem, is it possible to configure the USB-subsystem to deal with multiple partitions? Following up on this, I've been doing some searching for info on the IBM ThinkPad Port Replicator II (models 74P6733, 74P6734, 74P6735; not quite sure of the significance of these numbers :huh: ) for use with a Thinkpad T42, and came across a site which said that "The ThinkPad Port Replicator II does not support LINUX." Seems a bit of a strange statement; could either of you (or anyone else) tell me what it means? Thanks.
