  1. Will Mandrake V9 recognise and properly configure 2 video cards and monitors during the install process? I'm thinking of trying it and was wondering if any Linux distro could do this without having to edit by hand the config file after the install. Or is it necessary to install the distro then add in the second video card and monitor after the install?
  2. When I start mandrake V9 in runlevel 5, the default GUI login box has very small font sizes, almost to small to read. Anyone know where to change this to a larger font size? :? I would like to enlarge the whole GUI dialog box so its more readable. I just can't seem to locate this in the control center. I did change the greetings font size and thats readable now, but the login and password fonts are still very small.
  3. I'm not a expert at this, but I think that kde wants you to use the font installer in the MCC instead of just 'copying them over'.
  4. Got it copied bvc, thanks. Looks like it's easy enough to do when yuo know how.
  5. Sucess at last! It appears that the rutger server was borked last nite. Now that I know what the tip off looks like-> Login incorrect. I'll keep a look out for this in the future. DUH on me! I just decided to give this a try before I downloaded more sources, glad that I did. # urpmi kdeaddons --00:01:14-- ftp://ftp.rutgers.edu/pub/mandrake/Mandra...3-6mdk.i586.rpm => `/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/.listing' Resolving ftp.rutgers.edu... done. All I need to find out now is what packages are on the 3rd cd for v9, must be a list of the packages somewhere.
  6. It worked well before I removed the cd3 entry from the sources. I'll retry rutgers one more time and if it gives the same responce, removing it is probably the way to go. Thats good to know, I take it that urpmi at the command line will go down a list until it finds the package I'd want from every available source, otherwise it would be useless to add other sources for the same package name. I'm looking for the kdeaddons-3.0.3-6 mdk package. While I expect that newer ones are available, the amount of updating dependencies etc would be huge as a dial up user. Hence I'll wait for the new Mandrake V9.1 to come out. Then I'll try to keep up with all the updates.
  7. Not to sound like a dunce, but wouldn't I have to remove the rutgers source first? Before I add a different source from another location? Obviously this urpmi is a whole new ball game for me. :P
  8. And it's not that easy! 9. Well I just happen to have more than one hd. Makes it easier to do backups. :D looking at that file it dosent look like it's going to be easy for a non programer. Well you have lost me on this one, but it would be cool to see what packages have been installed at the console. :?
  11. Thanks anon: Yes cd3 is listed in the sources, my bad, I should of mentioned that in the post. Had no idea that it could be this simple of a fix. I'll give this a try and see what installs. :D
  12. How do I install the 'kdeaddons' package in V9 when urpmi kdeaddons keeps pointing to cd 3. I have updated the urpmi sources but still it points to cd 3. I really don't want to have to download and burn the 3rd cd just for a 5 meg package. Any ideas?
  13. Turn on your DMA for your dvdrom and all your optical drives. While your at it, check to see if DMA is enabled for all your harddrives. See man hdparm for more info. If you have never done this before you can read up on it here first. BTW hdparm wasent installed by default during the 'recommended' install of V9.0 But it is on cd 1 so it's easy enough to install it.
  14. iceperf is on one of the first two mandrake V9 cd's if you are still looking for it. Just use MCC and install packages, type in iceperf in the search dialog box. And after its found, install it.
  15. For system sounds like when a app closes you have to check the tiny box next to Play Sound tab. Then test it. :) The default sound is KDE_Window_Close.wav It's already setup but it needs to have that box checked before it will work, that is if you have a working sound card to begin with.
  16. Grip uses a SQL database to store lots of music information. You can find it in the config-> encode-> insert info into SQL database option. 8) So basically it's a good thing to have.
  17. I was kinda suprised to find that mandrake went to such lengths to wanker up lilo. :? It sure does make it difficult to pass a command line option at boot... sheesh, I'll give this a try here and see what happens. However I do get the text flying by after I choose which kernel to boot. So all that needs fixing here is a way to be able to pass command line options.
