leebrown
Hello all, I'm having a problem with a dual boot installation. I had 9.2rc2 (and several others before that) and Windows XP installed on this computer. I had about 10 different partitions. This morning I attempted to simplify things a bit while I was installing 9.2 and now I can't get XP to boot. The current configuration is: hda5 is / hda7 is /swap hda8 is /home hda4 is /mnt/win_c (XP called it L: this is my system partition, it's not first on the drive but this wasn't a problem before) hda6 is /mnt/win_d (XP called it M: this is my data partition) All data on my XP partitions seems to be in tact. The error I get on boot is something like "Can't find {windows system}/system32/hal.dll, please reinstall and try again." When I look on /mnt/win_c/system32 the file is there. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lee
pmpatrick
Post your /etc/lilo.conf file. That's the configuration file for the lilo boot loader.
leebrown
Thanks for the help. I was able to use the fixboot on the XP CDRom to correct the error. It seems as though deleting the extra partitions I had previously confused Windows. All is working properly again. Thanks. Lee
