fearby
Installed Mandrake 9.2 several times and after installation the initial boot fails always after grinding to a halt with "Building Window Manager Sessions" Anyone had similar? Same on a failsafe boot Is this a hardware problem?
Ixthusdan
Could you post some info about your system, as well as any peripherals? Is this an install or an upgrade, and is it the download edition? Did you md5sum the iso's before burning?
fearby
Thanks for answering. Had Mandrake 9.1 running fine but thought I would install 9.2 fresh. Asus P4PE mainboard Seagate Barracuda HDD Leadtek Winfast Ti 4200 video card The only differences between this setup and my initial 9.1 setup are: Asus USB 6 in 1 card reader which I thought was the problem but still had trouble when I disconnected it Nebula Digital TV card (BT 878 chip) Sony Ericsson P800 USB cradle for my new phone. Could it be one of these that is doing the dirty on me?
Ixthusdan
The first possiblity is the usb device, although this usually causes bootup errors that freeve the system. If you are making it to the session building process, I would try to create a new user and see if that works. If it does, then the sessions in your /home partition have some sort of issue. How long do you wait before you reboot?
fearby
I wait up to 10 minutes before turning power off.
Ixthusdan
Yep, 10 minutes is plenty of time! Try creating a new user, so that everything is built new, just to see if it works.

Ixthusdan
Unplug any usb devices and try the boot-up.
pmpatrick
I agree with lxthusdan. I just rebooted and ran dmesg and usb devices are loaded right before the window managers line on my system.
fearby
Tried booting without USB devices but still the same.
