Guest Ender
Hello all, I've been playing Quake3 (and mostly Rocket Arena) for quite some time now on Linux and haven't had any major issues. The one problem I do have is that it will randomly freeze the whole system. Cant telnet/ssh or anything into it so I have to resort to the ol' power button. Where should I look for errors to start tracking the problem down? (system specs to follow). The lock up occurs most when I just join a game and am presented with the menu (RA3 remember). I am running Mandrake 9 with the latest NVIDIA Drivers. System: [*]Asus MoBo (cant remeber specific model) [*]AMD Athlon 900 [*]1 gig ram [*]Albatron GeForce 4 4400 128 DDR [*]SB! Live Value [*]Some standard network card Thanks for the help and ideas!
Guest JaseP
It's almost invariably an AGP problem. I get the same thing. I have a Motherboard with an ALi 1541 chipset, which has problems with AGP and nVidia cards... I would suggest playing with AGPgart (the functional Linux equivalent to Windoze's AGP miniport drivers) to see if that clears up your problem. You can look find out what to change by reading the nVidia readme document that comes with the drivers or can be downloaded seperately. Guest Ender
Thanks for the reply, I'll look into the AGPgart and see if it helps at all.
