Trouble with XFree86

it takes you to the first virtual console. F1-F6 are virtual consoles, while F7-F12 will take you to graphical screen. you can start more than one X server with: startx -- :x where x is 0-5 and 0 is usually taken up if you have an X server already running.

Tyme, thanks for your explanation. Please check the howtos page on my site to find out I know that already :D

I was asking the topic starter since everybody asked him and in the end he just answered in the vain of saying, it just doesn't work and I'm about to give up... and then someone adviced to reinstall... which I am against, check my learning linux page on my site :P

 

Linux: replage the old adage: Retry, Reboot, Reinstall by: Check, Communicate, Correct.

Reinstalling should never be necessary unless sb seriously messed up the system.
