james
Saw this link in pinoypc.net forums, the pdf is in english. Migration Guide A guide to migrating the basic software components on server and workstation computers. spinynorman
Mad Penguin has a link to a document published by the EU - The IDA Open Source Migration Guidelines (October 2003). As IDA is Interchange of Data between Adminstrations, perhaps we'll see other governments producing national guidelines. :)

I sure hope so, the move by Germany is an inspiring one. Linux is being actively promoted in my country though there's still a lot of resistance (see - http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...?t=4835&start=0 ). The Philippines is moving towards open source, we already have a linux distro - Bayanihan Linux - http://bayanihan.asti.dost.gov.ph/ which was developed by our Advanced Science and Technology Institute which is an attached agency of our Department of Science and Technology. The LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) is being promoted in our schools (http://www.asti.dost.gov.ph/) . In the desktop side, i see more and more people installing linux (mostly dual booting) in their machines. The os though running in most of our government offices is still windows. Guidelines like those above would be a great help not only for my government but also for other governments and businesses seeking to migrate. zero0w
james, do you know the license for the Germany migration guide? I am looking into the possibility of translating it to Chinese with my team at local LUG in a hope to move Linux faster into mainstream IT deployment,
james
Sorry for the late reply ... unfortunately, i d/k the license requirements. zero0w
Thanks. I think this manual is for sale, I'll contact the editor and see if the rights of translation can be granted. BTW, I found the original link where both German and English versions of the manual were available. > Decision making aid - the migration manual of the BMI Lately I spent some more time reading it and it actually goes in-depth about many Windows network knowledge. Kind of cool for system admin who needs to deal with mixed environment l think.
