sjaglin
Hi, Not sure if it has been advertised here but a new driver for Nvidia GPUs is out today (for Linux users) (see http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_185.18.29.html). I installed it on my Mandriva 2009.4 PWP as the Ion is NOT recognised OOTB by Mandriva. The support for Ion chip-sets must be better as it is not recognised as "Unknown" any-more but as "Ion" quite correctly indeed... The 3D works very well, I have tested with the good old Compiz with all options on, the GPU does all the work while the atom stays on low usage. I also played with Chromium BSU and had good fun with it. I did the GLMark 0.5.2 test out of the Phoronix test suite (very good by the way) at 1280 x 1024. Result is 166 and it was quite pretty to watch. The PC I have the ion on is the ASrock 330 ION: Processor: Intel Atom CPU 330 @ 1.80GHz ( Motherboard: ASRock AMCP7A-ION, Chipset: nVidia MCP79, System Memory: 1771MB, Disk: 320GB ST9320325AS, Graphics: ION 512MB (450/800MHz) The video playing is very good, except the HD which is not as good as with the Windoze driver that I have on my first partition (using windze 7 trial version...). So nearly all good with this driver, needs to be incorporated in the ditro though as I can't see a newbie installing Nvidia drivers by hand easily...
