In case none of you coders saw me crying about my install issues, I'll introduce myself again... I'm a fairly well seasoned NT/2000 admin who has recently fallen in love with Linux. I have ZERO programming/scripting experience... I just wanted to know, where would a good place to start be? I bought a primer on Perl today... I know that's a useful "gap spanner" Am I heading in the right direction if my ultimate goal is to make myself as profitable and productive as possible?

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks!

google is your friend. use it to search for online, free tutorials. you'll learn, and save money ;-) i suggest learning C and C++ if you don't know them, along with bash scripting, python, perl (i see you started on that ;-) ) and just about any programming language that peaks your interest. the more you know, the more productive (and profitable) you'll be :)

I like Perl, but most everyone else here considers it a lazy man's language. The Perl Black Book is one of the best along with the Perl Cookbook. There's a tutorial online for BASH scripting:

http://www.linux.se/doc/HOWTO/Adv-Bash-Scr-HOWTO/

(It's also on your drive if you installed the Documentation. I think it's /usr/share/doc/HOWTO/Adv-Bash-Scr-HOWTO/)
