boatman9
I am trying to add the backports section of the repository. Using the Software Management tool (Rpmdrake 2009.0) I opened Options / Media Manager Then I tried to tick the enable box for Mirror list Main Backports. Rpmdrake responded "This medium needs to be updated to be usable. Update it now?" I clicked yes, then a small window opened and a file appeared to download. After that nothing has changed. The box next to Main Backports is still not marked. How does one add Backports? Can it be done from command console? {BBI}Nexus{BBI}
You can use the Easy-Urpmi link at the top of this page.
medo3891
Remove the backport repo all together then add only this backport repo using, as has been said, easyurpmi.zarb.org .
boatman9
Can I add backports by editing some of urpmi's configuration files? Which files would be the ones to edit?
medo3891
Go to easyurpmi.zarb.org and follow the steps there, choose only the backport repo you want.
boatman9
Unfortunately the only action buttons shown at easyurpmi.zarb.org are "Add official medias", "Add PLF medias", "Refresh commands", and two that are not recommended. Switch to manual mirror selection (not recommended) Switch to custom media selection (not recommended)
medo3891
My mistake I should have told you to click the two un-recommended, once you do this you'll be able to choose what repos you want.
boatman9
Thanks. Seems like just the lower of the two options, "Switch to custom media selection (not recommended)", is required, no? Below are the commands I intend to use. urpmi.removemedia -a urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://plf.zarb.org/mirrors/2009.0.i586.list' 'PLF Free' '../../../2009.0/free/release/binary/i586' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://plf.zarb.org/mirrors/2009.0.i586.list' 'PLF Non-free' '../../../2009.0/non-free/release/binary/i586' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://plf.zarb.org/mirrors/2009.0.i586.list' 'PLF Free Backports' '../../../2009.0/free/backports/binary/i586' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://plf.zarb.org/mirrors/2009.0.i586.list' 'PLF Non-free Backports' '../../../2009.0/non-free/backports/binary/i586' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Main' 'media/main/release' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Contrib' 'media/contrib/release' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Non-free' 'media/non-free/release' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Main Updates' 'media/main/updates' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Contrib Updates' 'media/contrib/updates' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Non-free Updates' 'media/non-free/updates' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Main Backports' 'media/main/backports' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Contrib Backports' 'media/contrib/backports' urpmi.addmedia --mirrorlist 'http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2009.0.i586.list' 'Non-free Backports' 'media/non-free/backports' Edited February 12, 2009 by boatman9
medo3891
Yep, the command look OK. BTW the guys who designed easyurpmi are actually Mandriva developers/contributors so they know their ropes ; )
{BBI}Nexus{BBI}
I'd also like to give SmartUrpmi a mention too. I like this site because it will produce a script at the end of your selection to automate the removal/adding of repos and, it will auto update your system after adding the repos.
