83mercedes
I know my dvdrom is OK, cuz dvds play fine with Mandrake 9.1, but in SuSE 8.2, whether using mplayer or ogle, the dvd video and sound is kinda jumpy or jerky, it will play fine for a couple seconds, then sorta hesitate, then play again, etc etc. Almost acts like my machine is too slow or not enough memory, which is not the case. Cannot get an error message, anyone else see this? Thanks.
bvc
I think you have to have hdparm installed to have these files, but you can check if dma is enabled with it/them. Here's my dvd-rom (Debian) localhost:~# ls /proc/ide/hdc capacity driver identify media model settings localhost:~# cat /proc/ide/hdc/settings name value min max mode ---- ----- --- --- ---- breada_readahead 4 0 127 rw current_speed 66 0 69 rw dsc_overlap 1 0 1 rw file_readahead 0 0 2097151 rw ide_scsi 0 0 1 rw init_speed 12 0 69 rw io_32bit 1 0 3 rw keepsettings 0 0 1 rw max_kb_per_request 64 1 127 rw nice1 1 0 1 rw number 2 0 3 rw pio_mode write-only 0 255 w slow 0 0 1 rw unmaskirq 1 0 1 rw using_dma 1 0 1 rw localhost:~# funky formating :? You can be sure it's your dvd with localhost:~# cat /proc/ide/hdc/model DVD-ROM BDV316C localhost:~# see if localhost:~# cat /proc/ide/hdc/driver ide-cdrom version 4.59 localhost:~# http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=5692 http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=

bvc
Great! For future reference you did /proc/ide/hdc/settings and forgot 'cat' cat /proc/ide/hdc/settings
