JediSB
(I mentioned this somewhat in another post but wanted to get some more input. Also posted at the old boards as well.) I'm running a fresh install of Mandrake 9 with OOo installed from the Mandrake CDs. I had tried to install the Evolved OpenOffice RPM and the install bombed out, saying the file libpanel_applet.so.0 was required. I later discovered that this was a "core" GNOME file. I don't understand why it wouldn't be there as I have GNOME installed (though I'm running KDE.) I've searched the Mandrake CDs for the package that contains this file with no luck. It seems to available through Cooker though. However, many people he apparently have not had this problem so I'm kinda stumped. I posted to the forum on the Evolved OO site over 2 weeks ago. I've gotten no response from the author. Has anyone else had this problem? Any idea what I can do to get Evolved installed? Should I D/L this file from Cooker? Is there another way? bvc
I'm guessing you're running LM9.0? Which has gnome2. libpanel_applet.so.0 is for gnome1.4 an older. You can use http://rpmfind.net/ to search for a rpm, using a file name (libpanel_applet.so.0). Here's the result http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.p...nel_applet.so.0 You can also use urpmf [bvc9@localhost bvc9]$ urpmf libpanel_applet.so.0[bvc9@localhost bvc9]$ urpmf libpanel_applet.so. [bvc9@localhost bvc9]$ urpmf libpanel_applet [bvc9@localhost bvc9]$ urpmf libpanel libncurses5:/usr/lib/libpanel.so.5 libncurses5:/usr/lib/libpanel.so.5.2 libpanel-applet-2_0:/usr/lib/libgen_util_applet-2.so libpanel-applet-2_0:/usr/lib/libpanel-applet-2.so.0 libpanel-applet-2_0:/usr/lib/libpanel-applet-2.so.0.0.4 libncurses5-devel:/usr/lib/libpanel.a libncurses5-devel:/usr/lib/libpanel.so libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/include/panel-2.0 libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/include/panel-2.0/GNOME_Panel.h libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/include/panel-2.0/panel-applet-gconf.h libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/include/panel-2.0/panel-applet.h libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/lib/libgen_util_applet-2.a libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/lib/libgen_util_applet-2.la libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/lib/libpanel-applet-2.a libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/lib/libpanel-applet-2.la libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/lib/libpanel-applet-2.so libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/lib/pkgconfig/libpanelapplet-2.0.pc libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/applet-popups.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/applet-porting.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/applet-writing.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/index.sgml libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/libpanel-applet.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/multi-applets.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/panel-applet.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/panel-signals.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/panelapplet.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/server-files.html libpanel-applet-2_0-devel:/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/panel-applet/session-saving.html All the 2's indicate gnome2, which is when I went to rpmfind.net. JediSB
I got a reply from the old MUB. Solves my problem in a different way: From Evolved Open Office site: "Stop Using Evolved OpenOffice Posted by: Admin on Sunday, October 13, 2002 - 06:31 AM PST 73 Reads Just a quick note to tell you that there is no point in installing Evolved OpenOffice. I leave it online incase anyone wants to poke around with the code. The current OpenOffice.org packages provided by redhat and mandrake are far superior to Evolved OpenOffice. Also, the next version of OpenOffice.org is going to properly incorporate a load of the features i tried to add with Evolved OpenOffice.org AND MORE. Later" Additionally, someone mentioned downloading the RPM as in the post above this one. Someone else advised not to: it's a downgrade with who knows how many deps, which would probably require going from gnome2 to 1.4, at least to have a working gnome.
