Guest lamatop
My soundcard is a 6 channel CMI8738 onboard one. Works ok with OSS under MDK9.0 However if two apps tries to output sound at the same time, the more recent one stalls. Example : Listening to music with XMMS and browsing with Mozilla. Some internet page has sound, and mozilla stalls. Click stop or pause on XMMS and Mozilla is fine again. Is this typical behaviour of the OSS driver, or is it related to my particular sound chip? dalee
Hi! I get that also with a SB Awe 64 Gold card. So I think it is more a problem with the sound server than the hardware itself. dalee
Guest lamatop
The problem can apparently be solved by using the Esound output plugin in XMMS. The esound mixer can mix different sources of sound. Maybe there is a problem with different sample-rates, but at least mozilla doesn't stall anymore. Guest dturley
the latest OSS drvier from open sound creates virtual sound devices so more than one app can play sound at a time. the quality is reduced but I expect it'l lget better as the develop this
