phunni
I want to begin experimenting with audio and music making in linux so, I've emerged hydrogen, ardour and audacity. All but the latter require jack to work. so I tried to run it as a normal user with the folowing results: jackd -d alsa -d snd-ymfpci jackd 0.78.2 Copyright 2001-2003 Paul Davis and others. jackd comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions; see the file COPYING for details JACK compiled with System V SHM support loading driver .. creating alsa driver ... snd-ymfpci|snd-ymfpci|1024|2|48000|nomon|swmeter|rt ALSA lib pcm.c:1906:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM snd-ymfpci jackd: pcm.c:687: snd_pcm_nonblock: Assertion `pcm' failed. received signal 6 during shutdown (ignored) I get similar results if I try this as root. As you can see I am using snd-ymfpci module for my soundcard and ALSA. I'd love to figure this out as audacity recorded some guitar for me and it sounded shocking - I'm hoping I can get better results with Jack please help... emh
Try this command to start Jack instead: jackd -d alsa -d hw:0 Should work as both normal user and root.
phunni
I figured it out - I needed to specify a different period (3) than the default (2)
