Kieth
My computer is really getting slow. There is also a problem when I close down a program. After closing down a program, it "leaves behind" a gray window. I'm hoping that it is connected with the problem of my computer loading up slowly. Below is the content of the file /var/log/messages. It is only for the first couple of minutes after I turned on the computer. I would appreciate all of you looking at it to see what the problem is. Thank you. ianw1974
/var/log/messages doesn't show anything, but I would say it's a KDE 4.1 problem more than anything else. When you get the problem, open a console window and then type: top and see if there is any particular process using a lot of memory.

Kieth
Thanks. So far I have disabled "Network Time Protocol" in MCC in "Manage date and time".
Kieth
Well, the system is getting faster. Because of adam's explanation about kernels, I installed a different kernel (kernel-desktop-latest). Because of the 2009 errata wiki page, I also "fixed" my skype "problem". Now there's another problem with pulseaudio. The quote below is copied from /var/log/messages. Any idea how to resolve the problem? Thanks.
