Just installed Staroffice 6.0 but can't find any shortcut to the prgram

in my start meny. Can run program from /usr/staroffice/soffice but when I

try to move/copy (soffice) to the desktop (KDE 3.1) the shortcut does not work as expected. Instead of starting the application it goes into install mode for StarOffice!

Any help appreciated

I 'by-passed' the the soffice shortcut. Look into the program/ folder. In it there is an executable for all the soffice apps (scalc, swriter, etc..). You can do a symlink to those executable from your desktop if you want. Mine are there (Star office is in the 'Star Office' folders):

"/home/gd/Programs/Star Office/program/scalc"

"/home/gd/Programs/Star Office/program/swriter"

You have to go through the install routine the first time you start Star Office . Gads, how soon I forget stuff...(meaning the following is from memory...)

There will be 2 install options. 1) as if on a network 2.) on a local machine (sorry I forget the exact language, but this should be close enough) Pick the network install (takes abot 5-10 seconds) and you will be able to start SO from the KDE menu.

I have tried your suggestions but unfortunately it still does not work.

I drag "swriter" from /usr/soffice/program in Konqueror to the desktop and choose copy.

When I click on the new icon nothing happens! Same thing with "scalc" etc.

When I drag and copy "soffice" from /usr/soffice/ and click on this icon

I get following message:

The application can not be started. The configuratin file

" /home/TD/.sversionrc " was not found. Do you want to start up the setup

application to check your installation?

Let it go through the install mode. Then see what happens.

Another way of making a desktop icon is to right click on the desktop then create new>link to application.

A little faster than drag and drop. You also get to choose the icon and a few other options.

When I click and follow the link to check the installation the program runs

through the standard installation with choices like "Modify", "Repair" and

"Remove", no "Network" "Workstation" choices.

However as the program was looking for .sversionrc in my /home directory

I just copied the file from the /root to new location and now everything

works.

Thanks all for your help!
