scarecrow
So far in 2009.0 I haven't found a way to edit a file after SU'ing to root. Simply type "mc" If you get used to that thing, you will NEVER use anything else for editing config files or managing files.
jkerr82508
If you really need a GUI file manager, then dolphin is adequate for all that you need to do in root mode. "kdesu dolphin" will launch it in root mode, provided that you've made kdesu available, as described in an earlier post. Another alternative is krusader. If you install that, it sets up a menu entry for root mode, but beware of this bug: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=44721 Jim
RVDowning
Another alternative used to be konqueror (before 2009.0) which is what I had been using the last couple of years. Quite simple to just double click on the file you want to edit.
