I installed wine and since I converted my XP partition to FAT32 I used the wineconfig to use native dll's and just direct wine to launch program installed on my windows partition. The error I get when launching word is this:

Microsoft Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup again. (This message occurs when it launches word which does open)

Here is the output in the terminal when I launch it:

[jeremy@localhost Office10]$ wine winword.exe

When you are running with a native NT directory specify

'Profile=<profiledirectory>' or disable loading of Windows

registry (LoadWindowsRegistryFiles=N)

Running Windows apps with Wine is not that simple, and the more complex the app the harder it is to get it to work. If you really want Word you could have a look around the Wine web-site for some instructions, or get a copy of Crossover Office from Codeweavers.

IMHO Wine tends to work better with apps installed in the fake_windows partition (you can use winesetuptk to get wine to use this instead of the regular windows FAT32 partition).

I've had great success with running Lotus Notes off fake_windows.

Perhaps you could try installing MS Word in fake_windows
