correct time

More than you ever wanted to know about time setting:

file:/usr/share/doc/HOWTO/HTML/en/TimePrecision/ntp.html

IF you installed documents when installing Mandrake you can access it thru K--Documentation-- How To's ! :) If you did not install the docs, they are on the cd's and you can install them or read them from the cd.

You can setup a time daemon to run at boot if you want to do so. Use MCC or the command line sequence in the above article.

It is a bit trickier on a dual boot system since Windows will reset the clock for you in some cases. The How To describes this.

In documentation there is a picture of "server configuration" on the list in mcc just below "software".

There is no such thing on my mcc, so no time wizard accessable.

Maybe because I have the standard (two disk) edition of 9.1?

Or because I've never configured a server and don't know what its all about.

And the file file:/usr/share/doc/HOWTO/HTML/en/TimePrecision/ntp.html

does not exist on my machine.

I've found interesting prog.s, like gettimeofday.2.bz2 and settimeofday.2.bz2

but am reluctant to try them, already broke too many things trying to use rdate.

Good you are making progress! Selamat! (congratulations!)

Until you get documentation installed, you can see the Gnu Linux HOW TO files on Time Precision at:

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/TimePrecision-HO...OWTO/index.html

That site has lots of helpful info, though some is outdated and it is not Mandrake specific either. Just drop to the homepage www.tldp.org and browse a bit.

I don't have access to my cd's right now, but check in the Configuration--Packaging--Install Software section and see if you can install the documentation files. Hope they are not on CD 3. (try to get this if you can) I think they are under workstation in a Documentation folder. That will help you find info like this as well as some configuration tips, etc. Happy computing!
