phunni
Recently reinstalled gaim (and everything else on my system) and decided to give alsa a go, having used OSS to date. Everything seems quite happy with alsa, except Gaim - I can't get any sounds out of it. I have tried all the various settings, and the only one which gives me any response at all is to use a command (for which I entered alsa %). The response this gives me is to crash gaim! :( Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get soundworking in Gaim? I son't use gnome or KDE sp I don't think arts is a good solution as I read somewhere about it being good for use with KDE
Dyslexic
Try using the aplay command instead of alsa. Interesting that you're using Mandrake for a server and Gentoo for a desktop OS. Good to see people breaking out of stereotypes.
phunni
Doh! That's what I meant - saying alsa above was a typo Sorry
Dyslexic
Not sure if this was also a typo or not... are you using "%s"? I'm using "aplay -q %s", and GAIM sounds are fine.
