I would have gone SuSE if it weren't for getting Mandrake (8.1 Standard) from Walmart and BestBuy (8.2 Powerpack)... I had SuSE 6.2 or so in 1998, and then didn't do much with it (set-up was a be-otch). The reason I ended up with Mandrake was because of the ease of getting the distribution.
