Guest tslugmo
I'm trying to get Evolution to play a sound when I get new mail. My sound card seems to be working fine, since I can play .wav files with xmms. Xine also works to play mpeg's. But when I enter the command "esdplay /home/user/Documents/sound.wav" I get "Audio File Library: WAVE MPEG layer 3 data format is not supported [error 0]" Evolution suggests using the esdplay command in order to see if sound is configured correctly. They don't give any hints if it's not, so I'm hoping you might be able to help me. I'm running a SB Live card, and I'm assuming this "esdplay" thing is the app Evolution uses to play the new mail notification sound? TIA, tslugmo
Cannonfodder
Do you have libgmp3-4.1.2-1mdk installed? Open a console and type rpm -qa | grep mp3 and look... also, you may be missing a codec..
Guest tslugmo
It tells me libgmp3-4.1.2-1mdk. That means the codec is installed, right? -tslug
tyme
no, it just means you have that packaged installed :-) as nothing to do with the codec ;-) what I don't get, is why is it referring to a .wav file as being in "WAVE MPEG layer 3 data format" wouldn't that mean it was an mp3???
