manly
I am using my Mandrake box at home, and putty (SSH forwarding) and cygwin to use my Windows box at work as an x client. It works, but it's very slow, even slower than VNC. How do I compress/optimize the X connection for my 128 kpbs upstream DSL line? Or is it better to just use VNC? Thanks, Andrew
DragonMage
Don't quote me on this, but I read somewhere that Remote X session is good if you have good bandwidth (ethernet +) because of the data involved. VNC is better for lower bandwidth because of compression scheme it uses. Of course, if I am wrong, feel free to correct me.
manly
I just found the "SSH Compression" option in Putty, which makes things better, but VNC is still faster. I had thought that because X was made for networking that their might be some lower-level ways to speed it up. --Andew
