David Batson
You probably need to install the firmware for your modem first. If you can get online, make sure you have set up the non-free repositories first, then run the Network setup tool in Mandriva Linux Control Center (Configure Your Computer). If you cannot get online with that computer, then you need to find the firmware files, download them to another computer, transfer them to the computer with the modem you are trying to set up, and finally either install the firmware files (.rpm files) or untar them to their own directory. Next go to Mandriva Linux Control Center and run the Network setup tool. I am a bit of a N00b with Linux, but I believe this is what you need to do. EDIT: The first time I read your post I missed the bolded line. Hsf:www.linmodems.org: Conexant|HSF 56k HSFi Modem [COMMUNICATION_OTHER] (vendor:14f1 device:2f00 subv:13e0 subd:8d85) Try going to Install Remove & Update Software and search for Conexant, HSF, or Linmodem (see 1st paragraph above). lavaeolus
there should be rpms for connexant hsf modems in mandriva 2008, afaik they are in the non-free repositories, if you use the powerpack-version the packages should be on the CD/DVD. /dev/modem should work if the packages are installed. David Batson
I was using Windows earlier. Now that I am in Mandriva I see that 'Install Remove & Update Software' (Software Management) has HSF packages for the Conexant modems. Here is some other information you might find helpful: dkms : a new way to install 3rd party drivers
