boatman9 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Share Posted March 12, 2008 I have recently switched to Mandriva Linux and wish to install the Gizmo SIP phone software. What's the best way to do that? I didn't find Gizmo in the repositories, can I request it be added? Gizmo can be downloaded from http://gizmo5.com/pc/download/linux/. I suppose Mandriva will use the Gizmo RPM Install Package, and I am somewhat familiar with urpmi, but I'm not sure how to install something that's not from the repository. scarecrow Posted March 12, 2008 Report Share Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) You can install it with rpm -i giz*.rpm under a root console. If you prefer a GUI, you can use kpackage, and first do a test install- to see if they are any error messages/existing files overwritten. Yes, you can submit a bug report here: http://bugzilla.mandriva.com/ Start to report a bug and you'll see that 'new package request' is one of the 'products' available. boatman9 Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Share Posted March 13, 2008 I am planing to make a local repository on a removable USB drive. This will be used to update several computers without need for repeated downloading from remote sources. I will be adding the local repository using urpmi.addmedia as explained in the urpmi.addmedia man page. I may have read somewhere that urpmi.addmedia will create a list of available packages for rpms found in local sources, not like remote sources where a list is needed. Will this work? If I put the Gizmo rpm in with the other rpms on my local media, will Gizmo then become one of the available packages shown in the graphical Rpmdrake software management tool?
