MoonChild
Had the same problem. Apparently, the problem was, X wouldn't start unless I was logged in. The way I fixed it was a reinstall of MDK (from 9rc2 to 9final). Don't know what caused it. Maybe some permissions could be to blame

bvc
Try using xdm instead of kdm or gdm. It's not for gnome or kde specifically. It's part of XFree86. [bvc9@localhost bvc9]$ urpmf xdm XFree86:/etc/X11/xdm XFree86:/etc/X11/xdm/authdir XFree86:/etc/X11/xdm/chooser XFree86:/etc/logrotate.d/xdm XFree86:/etc/pam.d/xdm XFree86:/usr/X11R6/bin/xdm XFree86:/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm XFree86:/usr/X11R6/man/man1/xdm.1x.bz2 XFree86:/var/lib/xdm
Cannonfodder
Could you be at init level 3 instead of 5?
theYinYeti
The problem with XDM is that there is no button to halt or reboot the machine, or to restart the X server (the last two are really optional). Yves.
bvc
The problem with XDM is that there is no button to halt or reboot the machine, or to restart the X serverIf I understood correctly, he wanted autologin, in the begining. So, for autologin there's no need to ever see xdm, if you put shutdown -r now and shutdown -h now in a menu or shortcut. Works in fluxbox and I get no errors anywhere.
