Guest c_m_f
ive changed my lilo.conf using mcc after installing the optmized Athlon XP multimedia kernel, and i set the new kernel to default and changed the name it's displayed as, and i checked lilo.conf and its the same as how i changed it to, but when i boot, its the original name for teh mm kernel (2.4.21-18 mm) and its not set to original. Any idea's what to do? Heres my lilo.conf boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map vga=normal default="linux mm" keytable=/boot/uk.klt prompt nowarn timeout=100 message=/boot/message menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux" root=/dev/hda7 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi hdb=ide-scsi acpi=off" vga=788 read-only other=/dev/fd0 label="floppy" unsafe image=/boot/vmlinuz label="failsafe" root=/dev/hda7 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="failsafe devfs=nomount hdc=ide-scsi hdb=ide-scsi acpi=off" read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.21-0.18mm-mdk label="linux mm" root=/dev/hda7 initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.21-0.18mm-mdk.img append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi hdb=ide-scsi acpi=off" vga=788 read-only
Ixthusdan
Did you run lilo after the changes??
mdg
I always thought if you make the changes in mcc, you don't have to run lilo after?
bvc
Drakboot hasn't worked worth a flip for me from day one. So it's possible that it didn't run lilo. It also wouldn't change to using grub for lawsonrc. Edit manually with an editor (not using wordwrap) and run lilo -v yourself.
aRTee
In theory, yes. Just open a konsole / xterm, do su and enter your root password, then type lilo and see what it tells you (added linux etcetc) ; the name with the star after it is the default one to boot. Cannonfodder
Also, pay attention to the messages after typing lilo. I noticed you have a "linux SPACE mm". I didn't think you could have a space in your entry name.. Might be why it didn't work.. Also, double-check your /boot directory and make sure all your links are correct.. (before you reboot after you type lilo)
tyme
Spaces aren't permitted in lilo. replace it with a "_" (no quotes). and for some reason drakboot doesn't always return error messages when lilo doesn't execute correctly. let's not get into how this is a shabby job on Mandrakes part, etc. etc. and just do the work around :-) replace the space with an underscore _ with your favorite editor and then run lilo -v (all this as root of course).
